I'm Going to the Lego store!!!

Post by Surfpenguin »

I'm going up to the twin cities to visit my sister for Christmas, and she's pretty much declared that we ARE going to the LEGO store at the Mall of America. Like she has to twist my arm to agree to that!

So here's my question: Is there anything special there that I should keep an eye out for Castle-wise?

If they have the build a mini fig bin, its worth a quick dig through to see if anything unusual has been dumped it. I've found some rarer pieces that somehow made their way in. Not specifically at that store, but at others.

I haven't had a chance to visit the MoA store recently so cannot comment on current stock levels for Castle related stuff, I can tell you I've never seen the absence of the Build a Minifig fixture. Because the store is unique in placement you may want to remember a camera if you desire to gets shots of the many sculptures they have. It's no 'hole in the wall' store :^)
If I get a chance before Christmas I hoping to make a visit and if I do I'll try and mention anything unusual relating to castley bits (but there are no guarantees that I will manage to get there).
Build? I merely Acquire atm.

The gear/props can vary from store to store, but I found the Kingdoms Dragon foam shield recently.

Is this picture at a Lego store? How much does it cost? ~KnightMan~

I picked up that shield in the summer of 2010 at the LEGO store in Anaheim at Downtown Disney. I find that the play gear shields are really hard to find. Some have shown up on shop.lego.com briefly, but I don't believe the dragon shield ever did. I would think it would be available on bricklink or ebay, since there were about 10 in the store at that time... however I don't even see it listed in bricklink's catalog.

cheers,

I would give anything to get an official Lego store to Finland. I think there had been sometime, or something similer but it didn`t work well. So I can just dream :(

I hit up the LEGO Store in Downtown Disney (Anaheim) yesterday.

Well, that's not 100% accurate. I hit up the temporary LEGO sales floor in Downtown Disney Anaheim, since the store itself is being remodeled. And that means disassembled displays, which means grab bags! But it gets better...they had some old batches of pink and purple bricks, long since discontinued in Pick-a-Brick but still on display near the ceiling for decoration. Evidently those got broken down and stuffed in the grab bags, and I scored one! Woo-hoo!

Also picked up some Series 6 Collectible minifigs (finally), and the random sample I grabbed included two Romans and two Highlanders! Score!

Yeah, I've found entire Collectable Minifigs dumped into that "create your own minifig" thing. They were disassembled and had their parts scattered about, but I found a Mime, a Vampire, a Witch, and the Pharoah in there. It's not worth buying the figs this way though, because it's 3 figs for ten dollars, and for some reason the store around here doesn't put weapons in the Accessories section, just tools and mugs.

The stores around here are the same. It's probably an image thing. Including appropriate weapons with specific sets or minifigs is one thing, but plunking them into open bins and letting kids rummage around for them might look a little shady. Some parents don't like their kids playing with war toys and if weapons only appear in sets they can avoid buying those sets, while if they are available for build-a-minifig, it's harder to control.
