Good story Koffiemoc! that's a very interesting way to create the factions. :)

the only thing I don't like is that King Alphundus should have a more umm... climatic death. I know kings died on hunting expeditions sometimes, but I'd rather it was something else. :)

Keep it up folks! :D

William the second of England died in a hunting trip, and the tension between his son and cousin sparked of almost to the extent of civil war, so I think its very fitting.

And Alexander the Great died of a fever. In bed.

There are two disadvantages about having the king poisoned by one of his sons. The story builds up with the boys being in control as long as their father is around. Troubles begin only when the king leaves the stage. That makes it less logical to let one of them kill him. Second, poison has long been considered to be a form of magic.

The story does not tell if the line of successors in each province never was broken. It most probably was.

it hasn't have to be one of the sons, like in my story it is a close counslor whom does it but use a volyorc blade (a knife used by orcs and goblins) putting the blame on others. And the sons are supicios on eachother about who did it and start hating eachother and then your story continues... :)

I love koffiemoc's story, but I have a problem with it. If the same guy is still the King, it can't have been more than 70 or so years. Maybe his line is still ruling, but not him?

I think it's implied that one of the youngest brother's descendents is now king. It wasn't terribly clear, but I am pretty sure that's what he meant.

that is certinly what he meant, something always is left out or forgotten if trying to make a short story like this. But it is better, it is very hard to read a much longer text of a laptop or computer in general :)

Yes, I meant to tell that today's king is a successor of the youngest brother. It might even be so that he isn't a great-great-grandchild in direct or even indirect line. But since that old time there's a king who is named king, but with no land or property and therefor only a small base of power. And yes, you two have guessed correctly that it's the short-text-limit that prohibited me to tell any more.

But I think that's something good. Not only because no-one wants to read longwinding stories on a screen, but it leaves more room for the reader to fill the blanks. As this is meant as a back story for a collaborative game/moc project, it should allow many participants to adapt and make this their own lore as they like.

Every six weeks I write a column for the collegues at work, it's published on the intranet. Always fun to see what people read in it that I didn't write - or at least that I didn't put in the article conciously. To some this might seem frightening, seeing readers run off with your child. I think it's amusing, amazing and I learn from it.

You can sign up when the sign-up thread is posted, which will be after the lore is selected.

(another general tip: no need to quote in your reply if you're replying to the person who last commented. Saves space on the forum. Don't worry, even people who have been here forever do it all the time, but it's just considered "good net-iquette" not to do it) :)

Loreos could have elephants. This is the lore thread (though), so if you have general questions, post them to the FAQ thread :)
