Longer handling for sets on BL?

Post by Sir Bragallot »

So I bought my first big set on Bricklinck, rather than just loose parts. I've paid 7 days ago, and the order is not even packed... I checked my mail to see if the seller had notified me of any problems, but he hasn't. I hadn't placed an order for about a year or so before this order so I have forgotten, is this normal (that it takes longer to pack if you buy a set) or should I be getting worried? What makes this worse is that I was anticipating getting it quickly because it's a seller from my own country... He's even received (a lot of) positive feedback in the meantime, which *should* indicate he hasn't been sitting completely still. However I don't want to bug the seller about anything before I'm certain this is an abnormal situation.

Well after a week I think you can bug him, at least to see if he sent it or not and maybe forgot to list it as packed. I haven't bought sets via bricklink yet but I think a week is kinda stretching it...

I would definitely contact him, I have never had it take that long for the seller to ship out the order.

Here's a couple of things to think about.

1. You said that you paid seven days ago. How did you pay? If you paid by Paypal, for example, you may have initiated payment seven days ago but that payment may not yet have cleared. While many sellers will ship as soon as payment is initiated, some do not ship until after the payment has cleared, which can take ten days or so.

2. You point out that the seller has received positive feedback in the seven days, and suggest that this 'should' indicate that the seller has been active in that time. That's not quite a sound conclusion to draw. The feedback easily could be based on shipments that were sent before your order was placed and not received until this time. So, you can't be sure that the seller has been active.

If it were me, I'd first check the store's splash page to see its shipping terms. Does the owner wait to ship until payment has been cleared? Second, I'd consider sending a polite email to the owner to inquire about the status of the order. I wouldn't call the situation 'abnormal', but if you're concerned it doesn't hurt to open a line of communication.

I second everything that Handar has said. That is excellent advice. Also, as long as you aren't whiny about it, most sellers are more than happy to communicate the status of the order. It's always best to have too much communication than too little, as that is when misunderstandings often arise.

edit: forget all that, the mystery is solved. It was a mistake by the bank, how rare!
