I wasn't sure where to post this. Does anybody know where to find or what kind of software to use to design a minifig on the computer?

This is a very good open-source 3d modeling program: http://www.blender.org/. It's free but it has a pretty steep learning curve. In theory, I think it's possible to find some common file types between this and say, LDraw -- but haven't actually tried that yet. Good luck.
(I wonder if "Publishing" might be the best category for this topic.)
