FACTION INFO

In the north stand the snow-covered mountain the Garhims call home. It is a desolate and barren world, but to the hard-working and honorable Garhims an easy life is no life at all, and with stone for their castles and fish for their mouths, the land provides everything they need.

Creations in this faction should have an "old Nordic" feel to them. Stone is plentiful, but wood is scarce and valuable, especially in the far-northern reaches of the region. Due to their difficult terrain, this faction values speed and maneuverability and has a strong focus on light infantry.

LEADERSHIP

In the Province of Garheim, the independent nature of the people make uniting them a difficult task. For the last 20 years, this duty has fallen to Jhirian Eindrik, who leads by virtue of his reputation as a skilled hunter and warrior. Honor and respect is highly prized in the northern lands, and Jhirian has earned it from his kinsman by virtue of his efforts in defending the homelands from rouge outlaws and skirmishes with the other factions of the land.

Image

Feeling no need to bow to any other man, his allegiance to the King would not exist, were he not bound by the ties of loyalty that his people live by. His sword, and that of his fellow Garhims, belong to the King as long as the Code of Honor between them remains intact.

FACTION TRAITS/INFO

- A resident is called: Garhim (plural: Garhims).
- Colors (primary/secondary): Dark Blue/Blue.
- Terrain: Mountainous and harsh. Sub-arctic in the north, with sparse evergreen forests in the south.
- Building style/materials: Small to medium fortifications, often built into the mountainside. Stone is plentiful, and wood is only a viable building material in the southern valleys.
- Natural resources: Stone, minerals, hunting and fishing.
- Economy: Mining, fishing.
- Army: Light infantry.
- Navy: Small vessels.
- LEGO sigils: Black Falcons, Crown Knights (see below).

**CURRENT CHALLENGE: LC11 - The New Soldiers (by gurusql)**

**GC4 PARTICIPATION WAS LOW - WE NEED YOUR HELP!**

First of all, thanks to everyone who participated in GC4. We had a relatively low turnout for this one (myself included), so let's all do our best to enter the next GC so that we can retake the global points lead!

Current faction standings are (GC1+GC2+GC3 = total - GC4 results TBD):
Garheim - 55+45+60 = 160!
Lenfald - 45+30+75 = 150
Loreos - 40+40+42.5 = 122.5
Outlaws - 25+40+32.5 = 97.5

**OFFICIAL GARHEIM FLICKR GROUP**

There is now an official Flickr group exclusively for Garhim creations.

(Please only post one picture per MOC to the group)

**LC8 - The Things of Nightmares** (hosted by AK_Brickster)

The Challenge: Howling winds... dark mountains... unknown wilderness... the screech of owls and the cry of hungry wolves.....

Nighttime in Garhiem can be a terrifying place to anyone, be it man, woman or child. Many nights around a campfire have been passed telling stories about the terrors that may be lurking just beyond the edge of the firelight. Wolves, demons, snow spirits, abominable snowmen. Real or imaginary, these are the things of nightmares.

Winner: Gurusql's "The Krokrslenta"
Honorable Mention: Konze's "Woods of Pain"

**LC7 - Garheim Landmarks** (hosted by Konze)

The Challenge:The land of Garheim is a vast and wild expanse, with much of the country uninhabited and poorly mapped. In order to avoid becoming lost in the wilderness, Garhims learn at a young age to make use of landmarks, both natural and man-made, to help guide them on their journeys. Build a scene showing your character at a prominent Garhim landmark.

Winner: Brother Steven's "Arch of Ran Gor"

**GC2 - The Search for the Sword**

The Challenge: Build 2 MOCs - One that shows your character gathering information about the location of the sword, and one showing them finding it.

Garhiem Finalist: Eklund's PART 1 and PART 2

**LC6 - Fishing Tournament** (hosted by AK_Brickster)

The Challenge: Summer is upon us and has finally provided some meager relief from the harsh northern conditions. The winds have abated slightly, and in southern Garheim, the weather is almost pleasant. In celebration of surviving another cold winter, Jhirian Eindrik has declared a regional fishing tournament! What better way to celebrate the region's rich fishing history than to see who among us is the best at capturing these tasty denizens of the sea?
RESULTS HERE

**LC5 - Freedom! (8x8 Challenge)** (hosted by AK_Brickster)

The Challenge: In honor of the 4th of July coming up (American Independence Day), there will be a small contest to commemorate the holiday. Show your character participating in a MOC based around the word, "Freedom" (can be taken literally, or in a broader more general way - write a short story describing your MOC).

Your first challenge (worth 2 points for participating, and an extra 5 for winning), is to build a MOC that shows your character toughing out a storm in a temporary shelter built from the land.

I still like 'Garhimi' better - but maybe the Earls of the Ulenborg will use a slightly different dialect ;-)

As I understand, next challenge will probably be a faction contest. I do not expect the FO and FL to know all exact details at this very moment off course, but maybe they already know when it will be announced?

AK_Brickster refering to your post in the LCC - Discussion Thread
AK_Brickster wrote:Name of Capital City (location already shown)
Name/Location of 3 additional major cities (encampments/hideouts for Outlaws)
Name/Location of 5-8 major landmarks/geographical features.

gurusql wrote:Kroth Stonegrinder is an experienced warrior and currently the Captain of the Guard for the town of Havenhill. He does not carry the title of Sir since at present he does not own any land. The town of Havenhill is situated along a river that is near the center of Garheim.

From my CIC I had envisioned Havenhill to be a town that is along the river that is to the left of the one with the capital on it, about half way up the river, just at the tree line. The ruler of the town is Lord Aldolphus and my character (Kroth Stonegrinder) is Captain of the Guard.
I would encourage others of our fine faction to summarize the location names and where you thought they were on the map that you already included in your CIC. :D

The Ugleborg is located near the west coast, at the border with Lenfald, near the Lenfald stronghold Falkerborg.
Ugleheim and Falkerby, which were build near the Ugleborg and the Falkerborg, are quite small villages and will not necessarily be shown on all maps.

Added link to map on Flickr to announcements section. Feel free to discuss the map development over there. I've tagged some possible city locations in locations that seem geographically reasonable, but we can discuss them amongst ourselves over there.

Rothburg is a town of moderate size that belongs to Angus the Bold. It was granted to him by the King for his good deeds. (Read Angus' story for more info.) It is also his hometown. It is located on the very east side of Garheim very close to the shore. The town itself is surrounded by a small tundra which is good for sheep and small livestock. As for landmarks, there are just a few gysers to the north. Rothburg, itself, has a small stone wall and a keep in the center of the town. Also, it has a few problems with rebel Vikings.

Faction "Leaderboard" has been added to the last post. Wob, if you want to be in charge of scoring, that's fine. Otherwise I can do it. I'll prob keep score either way, but it might be easier to find if we can put it in your first post instead of tacking it to an already very long first post.
Thanks guys. Liking the input we're getting on the map. One of these evenings I'll do some serious cartography work on it 8)

We can put scoring in my post, sure. I think we should include usernames as well as character names though, I have no idea who most of those people are ;)

That's fine. It just looked redundant since I have the roster in my main post as well. If you put the leaderboard in your post, I think adding the usernames would be good. I played around with putting it in an excel sheet so that you can easily add the points and re-rank them and then just copy/paste into your post. Just an idea. :)
