Age of Empires

Post by krzyzak »

Anyone here would like to comment on the game Age of Empires? I don't own it, but sometimes I get to play it at my friend's house. I think it is an awesome game, one of the best. Just one question: does this game work on the Macintosh?

I don't know of a Macintosh version, but that's something you could probably look up on wikipedia or something like that easily enough.

This post reminded me of a discussion we had several months ago about doing an AoE collaborative project for BrickCon this year. I am going to have to try to resurrect that idea if I ever get any time between work and the LCC project that's going on over in the "stories" forum here.

Anyway, here's the thread, if you're interested: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=21100

Tis only the best ever RTS out there. Age of empires 2 1.0c update is the best in the series and still played online by thousands on Voobly and Gameranger! Me and my family still have LAN parties to play it in tournaments. AOE 1 has not aged well but I still love it and at the time of its release twas groundbreaking, AOE 3 really was a huge let down in the way the whole gameplay was changed and you couldnt change the flipping map size :/ I haven't tried AOE Online since its been released as its just a money making exercise where you can play for free but then need to pay to get access to all civilisations. Hope that is a decent quick overview

Also check out Age Of Mythology - at the time I didn't dig it too much but as a spin off and set in a mythological world it is actually quite a good game!

yup, just download the game client on Voobly.com and play away! Any zero gamers generally find it difficult to get a game though

Here's a problem: when I try to play it, the computer says Age of Empires was not found on my computer. There's also this diagnostics business. Any advice?

I haven't the game cd at all. Wish I could. I might get the second game in the series later, so that game will not need downloading. I still want to play the first game though. Maybe it's better to let it go. If I get the second game, my urge for playing would be satisfied. The second game is similar to the first, so I'll still have fun, IF I get it.

I downloaded a trial versian, and I must say I'm considering buying the game...
I'm not much of a gamer, so for me to even think about spending money on a game is really saying something. The only problem is, I'm currently saving up for Kingdoms Joust and Mindstorms stuff, so this may be out on the backburner for a while.

Let's avoid talking about game downloads on this site. The legality of such things may vary from country to country, and Classic-Castle is not about pirates.

As a game, I did not think Age of Empires was good as some other RTS like StarCraft games and Total Annihilation, but Age of Empires is the best historical RTS I am aware of.

There are Macintosh versions of Age of Empires I, II, and III, but they are all out of print and difficult or expensive to find. Amazon and eBay probably both have copies available. However, if you have a somewhat recent Macintosh, you probably won't be able to run the first two. If you have an older Macintosh, send me a PM. I might be able to help. I think I have either the first or second, and I do not play it anymore.

yeah fair enough, that was wrong of me to post that.

One the subject of the best RTS AOE 1 is the best historically but you are correct, the gameplay does not hold up to other contemporaries like starcraft etc. But AOE 2 for pure simple enjoyable gameplay is unparalelled in my mind
