It's doable, but tricky. On the other hand, I've got a better design for this now, but it requires this piece: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=99207 Once I have enough of those, it will be much easier to make in a different radius.

I'm too lazy to pull out the camera at the moment. The innards are just more of what you can see on top.

As I said on flickr somewhere:
It is made up of 4 rings, more if you want it taller. The rings are identical and are made of 6 1x2 tiles, 6 hinge plates, and 6 brackets. You should be able to figure it out from the top ring in the picture. For the moment, none of the rings are connected to each other. Each layer is made of two rings, one of them is upside down. The offset is caused because there are some studs in the way. Right now the offset is the height of a stud. It can be increased to the height of a plate.

I have a thought, but I don't know if I can explain it well. Assuming that the finished tower would have SNOT walls attached to the exposed studs, would it be possible to have the studs align if you used only three rings (for each rendition of the circle)?

From what you have in the picture, remove the two upside-down rings, turn one of them right-side up, and insert between the other two. Use plates etc to make the bottom studs of the middle ring align with the top studs of the bottom ring (and obviously, the top studs of the middle will align with the bottom studs of the top ring). Does that make sense? My motivation is conservation of pieces i.e. making them go farther.

Anyway, my two cents.

As it is right now, there's not quite enough room to flip one of the rings over and sandwich it between two others. The middle ring forces a small gap between the other two. I suppose if you only had the three rings(but not four or more) you could get rid of the gap, but the alignment isn't quite right. The studs are just a little bit too tall.

I think I understand what you're saying about saving parts. If you let the snot walls do some of the work of holding the thing together and/or covering holes, then there are all sorts of possibilities. You say three rings instead of four, how about two rings instead of three? It's easy to get the studs lined up if you just have one layer.

Wow, that's impressive stuff. Now I understand your motivation. But for me, it's too parts-intensive -- I'm always looking for the more(-effect) with less(-parts) approach. Budget considerations.

That's showing a lot of promise! I don't have any of those bracket bricks but I saw some on Bricklink the other day. Was tempted to get some but focusing on something else for the moment which is costing enough as it is!

Keen to see it decked out in a surface and built to height.
