What is happening to classic yellow minifigs?
(I was originally going to post this in the Zelda reaches 10,000 topic but its sort of off topic and this should be discussed)
I personally am getting tired of the endless amount of licensed themes being made in the last few years and all(correct me if I'm wrong)of the projects that have hit the 10,000 mark at Cuusoo are licensed, when will this stop? I mean a couple licensed themes are ok like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Superheroes but too many to count is not making me happy at all and look at whats happening to the fast dwindling themes/sets with non-licensed minifigs: Creator, City, Modular Buildings($$$), Kingdoms(only one set then the theme is done), Monster Fighters(I won't even say anything), Ninjago(I won't even say anything), and Dino(As bad of pricing as licensed sets) so does everybody these days want 95% fleshies and 5% classic yellow?

Gentlemen as it has been said multiple times before..only licenses have non-yellow heads. It is not a policy that is going to change. It was discussed within the ambassador program a while ago and that was confirmed.

You do know that LEGO has been actively pursuing licenses for the last few years right? Do you know why? Because megablok gets all the licenses, and then LEGO doesn't sell. So they have decided to go after them. Especially with the success of the SW line. Its a reality, no matter how much we do not like it. And yes, I fully agree with you on the topic. I do not like all these licenses. But unfortunately, we are not the target audience for LEGO. Licenses sell to them and their parents and grandparents who hear "Mom I want Halo LEGO" and they go buy megablok because they do not know.
Re: What is happening to classic yellow minifigs?
There's plenty of yellow in the collectible minifigure line. And each one has a brand new face. Sure we are getting less yellow in sets but we are getting about 3 times as many new yellow faces each year with the CM figs.
Would I be wrong to say that the collectible minifigs are selling better than any other line?

But most of them have an obnoxious grinning expression.dyntar wrote:There's plenty of yellow in the collectible minifigure line. And each one has a brand new face. Sure we are getting less yellow in sets but we are getting about 3 times as many new yellow faces each year with the CM figs.

Re: What is happening to classic yellow minifigs?
So maybe the ratio of licensed to non-licensed themes has changed, but aren't City and Ninjago the two best selling themes? Non-licensed yellow heads... yeah I know Star wars is right up there...
I have to say, I totally understand Lego wanting to sell licensed themes... my little four-year-old son really likes his Batman and Cars Legos, and he's not even technically in the age-range for those! I don't have a problem as long as there is a mix of both.

Maby I'm looking at it from one side because we have just about everything we need in yellow except space(whatever more money for castly stuff) and castle(no non-licensed castle )

Re: What is happening to classic yellow minifigs?
Honestly... I hope the LOTR line dies a quick and painless death. I really want a return to the classic castle with yellow faces and sets that are not trying to halfheartedly copy scenes from a movie.
I have enjoyed the new parts that come from the collectable minifig range... and hope that they continue for a long time... but ...It does seem that the yellow face is getting replaced by those aweful franchise of the month pink faces. I prefer the yellow faces that don't actually represent a character from a movie but instead represent an emotion or style. These yellow indistinct faces will continue long after people have forgotten about the movies...

I don't like an overload of licensed themes either. Lord of the Rings and Star Wars are cool, but Lego should really make long-lived original themes too. Lots of these original themes have one wave and that's it.
You've got to ask yourself one question,"Do I feel lucky?" Well do ya, punk?

Re: What is happening to classic yellow minifigs?
Guess we should call that 19 now then with the chess set. The problem I have with 'fleshies' is they usually represent specific characters, and who wants 20 Jack Sparrows in their army? Whereas yellow faces seem to me to be more generic, so you can have an army using only 3 or 4 different faces (or 1 if you're going classic). On this point it does bug me though when TLG using the same more distinct head for numerous different 'characters' eg the dragon wizard, MMV blacksmith and Crown Golden knight all have the same face! Maybe there's some hidden story we're not being toldKnight Man wrote:Actually 18 Kingdoms sets with the Advent calender, battle packs, and Creator set.Tedward wrote:Uhm, try 14 sets if you include polybags: Kingdoms theme on BricksetKnight Man wrote:...Kingdoms(only one set then the theme is done)...
