Dom tower of Utrecht

Hi all,

My very first post here, so I hope you like it. I loved LEGO as a child, spending my time building castles and forts mostly. A while ago that love was rekindled when I discovered LEGO Digital Designer; giving the opportunity to use unlimited bricks.

This is my first (digital) build in over a decade, ha ha. I tried to build the "Domtoren" (Dom tower) of Utrecht. A photo of and a short history of the real tower can be found here and I put some photographs of my LEGO version here.

Thanks. The real tower is about 112 metre tall, so it could have been even bigger; about 60 LEGO figures high to scale, now it is about 24 figures tall.

The Dom church' midship was destroyed during a storm in 1674 Nowadays the tower is separate from the church. Only part of the church still stands (the rear) and the space between that portion and the tower is a square with trees: PICTURE. Really nice place, if you ask me. In the beginning I wanted to add the part of the church that still stands and this square with trees, but the number of bricks used in the tower alone makes the Digital Designer program rather slow.

First off, welcome to CC! I hope you enjoy the discussions here. My only tip on how to improve it is to build it out of real bricks. My favorite bit is probably this middle section:

I really like that detail in the tracery of the central window with the little cross. I also really appreciate that you designed your model so that it could swing open to reveal the bells.

This is unfortunately very common destiny of larger LDD MOCs. So far I made two big MOCs (25.000 -two years- and 20.000 -one year-bricks). I was afraid when started. At the end it is only lack of will that can stops you from building. Passion can guide you to completion.
