Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
If you want some ideas for different styles, try a Google image search for "Fantasy Map". Looking forward to seeing what people come up with!
Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
I see there are roads missing from this map, is this intentional or were they just not consolidated from the feaction maps.
Also, for inspirations I greatly suggest visiting the Cartographers' Guild - there are some really amazing maps to look at and get inspired by.
When can we expect to get the deadline, because I really wanted to continue on the map I started months ago for LCC, but I won't be having enough time the next two weeks or so.

Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
I'd guess we'll probably let this run for at least a month or more, so that people have time to put some quality time/effort into their maps
EDIT: Roads can be added by the artist, but should follow roughly the same path as laid out in the regional maps, unless approved otherwise by the faction's FO

Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
Just out of curiosity, how many of you are working on (or planning on working on) an entry for this?
Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
It will take a while to create a complete map. I would like to create one but one thing holds me back. I would put a lot of time in drawing a map but in the end everything could be for nothing because the map of someone else wins the challenge.AK_Brickster wrote:Just out of curiosity, how many of you are working on (or planning on working on) an entry for this?
Do we have to draw the whole map? In my opinion it is better to create only a small part of the map for the challenge and the winner of this challenge will create a complete map.

Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
I am working on a map right now... I will post a SVG or AI file with the outlines/cities/rivers/mountains for everyone to use - as a starting point.

Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
I don't see any reason why this wouldn't be allowed. Just be sure to explain your entry so that people don't get confused when they only see 1/4 of the map, or however much you decide to do. Just make sure that you make sure it shows a good representation of the majority of the features that the final map will have (ie, show some of each of coastline, dessert, forest, snow, mountains, streams, towns, etc).konze wrote:Do we have to draw the whole map? Also, keep in mind that, as with any challenge, everyone will put a lot of time into their entries, but there will only be one winner in the end, so don't do it simply for the end result of winning, but because it's something you enjoy doing
Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
Should anyone want a starting point for their map-making, I have uploaded a vectorized version of the map (SVG graphics overlaid on the map from wobnam)

Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
Well, it's been a while since I've used my limited graphic skills, but I think I'll try to get an entry in.
Thanks for that man. I wasn't really sure how to start, and you gave me that kick to get there. Oh, and I love your most recent build, for the Lc4 part 2.

Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
Well, the busy time of the year is approaching again for me so I don't know whether I will be able to work more on my map - so I present to you:
The Keeper's Map of Roawia and its Lands and Provinces
screen-resolution map | full-resolution map (~2.6MB)
screen-resolution map | full-resolution map (~2.9 MB)
--
Flickr set for discussion/errors/suggestions concerning the map: http://www.flickr.com/photos/66475636@N ... 764822398/
--
EDIT
Production notes: about 14 hours of work; map outlines, symbols, names and mountains were made in Adobe Illustrator CS6; the map as a whole was imported into Adobe Photoshop CS6 and color layers were placed above and below the outlines... background was a stock image of parchment with several layers of added details, structures and highlights/shadows... vegetation colours were added on separate layers with graphics tablet/brushes

Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
Whoa quick comment, I believe we have a great candidate for a winner of this map making. I think I won't bother to try to make one, cause Mitah that is awesome
"EDIT" One question, I have I missed something or what does it mean when you placed the banner of "king's council" besides the small island west of Loreos? Wasn't the king and the council located on the tiny island south of Garheim coast, northeast of Loreos?

Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
Call it artistic license... Like with the Loreesi Capital, I couldn't find any info on it. But somehow I always assumed the council was located on this island, since there was a city marked there that I haven't heard of before.mencot wrote: One question, I have I missed something or what does it mean when you placed the banner of "king's council" besides the small islander east of Loreos? LCC in general seems to lack some direction/coordination as of late: There is no comprehensive consolidated info to be found about the world ( I think Teherean was working on a timeline), There are no detailled maps of the Provinces and the fact I couldn't find the Capital of Loreos speeks for itself. Let's hope with the final map comes a turning point.

Edit: I guess it's good this questions pop up now, so they can be answered once and for all

Re: Lands of Classic Castle final map challenge
Hey Mitah!
To clear things up, I'm quite sure the Loressi agreed that Dalmunutha was the capitol of Loreos as described in the tread (very well buried. Look at the bottom of this page.. )
I do remember hearing something about the Kings council and Kings castle being located on the island to the east of the continent. That way it would be relativity close to all three of the factions, but I'm not totally sure on this point.
Once the Map challenge is over and we have a map we could(or should. ) make a page. Perhaps titled the "history of Roawia" Were we could load lots of this type of info, as a reference for future stories and builds.
Despite these minor flaws I'd like to say how much I like your map!
It's totally Awesome dude!! Both of em! Wow! I very much think this (or an edited version of this.) will end up being the map of Roawia.
