CCCX Cross-Category Awards
Hey all,
Yes, this time I promise to post the winners earlier than a year after the contest is over. As a little add-on to the CCC, I'm again going to make some cross-category awards. These are separate from the contest judging. Winners will be given special forum titles that you'll have for a year or so or until you get renamed noob of the week for doing something dumb. Try to incorporate the following into your builds:
Historian - Use your entry to teach us something about medieval life or real historical people and events.
Friend - Include elements from the Friends line (even figs) in a clever way.
Collectible - Prominently feature a fig from the Collectible line (any series).
NPU - Utilize a 'useless part' - that is, one that is definitely not intended for castle building (aside from a Friends part, I guess).
Scales - Somehow mix scales in your fig-scaled MOC - maybe by incorporating microscale to give forced perspective, or introduce a giant to your minifigs, etc.
Humor - Make us laugh with your entry.
Best Use of Duplo - Use Duplo to give your castle MOC that extra edge. (Hint: We need to be able to see the Duplo)

I don't even want to know what is going to happen if we start using Friends stuff in our castle mocs, but hey, I have to say I like these categories!

I suppose this means I'm going to have to submit "Diego and the Multi-Colored Tunnel of Doom" afterall. Hmmm....JoshWedin wrote:We, your esteemed Admins, hereby are adding another Cross-Category Award.

Re: CCCX Cross-Category Awards
Fellow builders, I'm happy to say I am now a proud owner of a Friends set. I will say this though; walking through the Princess section in Target to find a Friends set was a bit embarrassing. I even got a few dirty glares from some moms with their young daughters, you know they we're just thinking I was some kind of creep. Still, I followed through with what I said, so that means something, right? Okay, I'll stop my babbling and finish with this, go buy a Friends set!

Re: CCCX Cross-Category Awards
Well, now that you've got DUPLO and Friends categories, maybe I'll have to re-assess my "no contests" rule. Of course, to do that I would actually have to build something... And I just got my collection all perfectly sorted! After taking two months to sort, how can I ever bear to mess it up again???
Re: CCCX Cross-Category Awards
Believe it or not I have plans to put all of these in 1 MOC, the hardest one is figuring out something to teach you about castles...
Thankfully I have a younger sister with friends sets already

Re: CCCX Cross-Category Awards
Hey,
I'll bet you thought we'd forgotten. These things take careful study and deliberation. Here are the winners for the CCCX Cross-Category awards. Drumroll please:
Historian - Use your entry to teach us something about medieval life or real historical people and events.
Kumplekante taught us about an English tradition going back to the early sixteenth century with his frost fair. For this he is awarded the title of Geoffrey of Monmouth.
Friend - Include elements from the Friends line (even figs) in a clever way.
Fraslund showed us that minidolls can push the English back across the channel with his Joan of Arc. For this we name him Mellon.
Collectible - Prominently feature a fig from the Collectible line (any series).
The CMS have given us many useful figs, and Timinator used the elf here in his Ill-advised journey. He becomes the Bailiff of the Figs.
NPU - Utilize a 'useless part' - that is, one that is definitely not intended for castle building (aside from a Friends part, I guess).
Andhe's Wake up and smell the roses probably is the funniest npu ever. He becomes our Barber Surgeon.
Scales - Somehow mix scales in your fig-scaled MOC - maybe by incorporating microscale to give forced perspective, or introduce a giant to your minifigs, etc.
Elephant Knight's Troll escape uses all kinds of perspective tricks - mixing different tree types, minifig and gamefigs, the tiny castle, and stepping the road width down from 8 studs to one. Until you look closely, you may not notice that the back of the MOC is about half the width of the front. He becomes our CC Spriggan.
Humor - Make us laugh with your entry.
Nanuck kind of owns this category, always coming up with funny MOCs, and this year's wrong way, Ted is no exception. He returns to his throne as court jester.
Best Use of Duplo - Use Duplo to give your castle MOC that extra edge. (Hint: We need to be able to see the Duplo)
Mencot's robber baron is great in that it seamlessly incorporates the Duplo into a System MOC. He even made a custom torso and shield for the guy on the right to match the heraldry of the Duplo shield. He becomes Twifealdlic Builder.
Finally, as an additional title, LL gets the name Alan-a-Dale for his series of Robin Hood MOCs.

Re: CCCX Cross-Category Awards
Ah the Cross-category awards, I almost forgot about them too.
Suprised to see that I was one awarded for the use of Duplo , because it is in a visible spot but it blends pretty well in to the wall. So it could go unnoticed. Thanks
Congrats also to the others awarded with new tag-title
