Castle of Guimarães by Projecto Construir
Hey all,
In my front page write-up of the Chapterhouse Window from the Convent of Christ built by school children in a project organized by Projecto Construir, I alluded to another ongoing project, the Castle of Guimarães. This project involves over 120 children and will be built of over 80.000 elements. They expect to finish it very soon and it will go on public display, in Guimarães, Portugal (and will probably be at some AFOL events in the next year as well). Here are some pictures in progress:
And here's what it will look like when finished:

Man, the plans for this thing are so crazily epic, and I am sure it will look crazily epic when complete. It is cool they are able to get so many bricks together for a good cause like this, because the stuff they are able to make is awesome.

That is just plain awesome. It's amazing that these kids are achieving that kind of detail! But them again I'm only 16...

Wow That is an amazing creation! It's great to see what people can do when they get together and build with Lego.
Re: Castle of Guimarães by Projecto Construir
It looks like this has finally been completed. In my opinion, this is the best lego castle ever constructed. The size and scale is incredible.

You can see some minifigs in the courtyard and around on the walls if that helps

Is anyone else worried about the glass case this is sitting on?Eklund wrote:It looks like this has finally been completed. In my opinion, this is the best lego castle ever constructed. The size and scale is incredible.

I'm still lost on how you get into/out of that thing. Are there any pics of how the walls are constructed behind the tile "bricks"?

Re: Castle of Guimarães by Projecto Construir
Thanks. I'd only looked at the first half dozen pics of the completed model. This is a cool technique, and brings up an idea. Using dk/lt grey tiles for the brick facing, you could use a different (and cheaper) colour as the background wall. It could make for some interesting visual effects.

Too freaking cool. I really like those red roofs, they seem more realistic than the tall pointy ones we often like to stick on top of our LEGO castles.
