Well, it certainly was a surprise. :tasty:

Yeah, I definitely see the draw to it (an ironic sort of awesome [if that makes any sense]), but I'm definitely not sawing in half my only polar bear from the early '00s. Mark hit the nail on the head with this:

It's cool for those who like it, but might be only accessible to those who have the money and resources. Seems a bit...limited. I for sure respect what everybody's doing, but on this one...I'll pass.

Some outrageously cool MOCs in that whole thing. I have to agree that the limited availability of the polar bear (five sets from 2000 and 2001 according to Bricklink) will prevent this from becoming a viable fan meme.* I also have exactly one polar bear, and am not in a hurry to slice him open, as cool as it would be to join in on this bandwagon.

Bruce

*OTOH, in the US the polar bear runs between $3 and $4, which is less than I would have guessed from an obscure theme over a decade old.

I think that the bandwagon that was meant to be jumped on is not decapitating bears. That was just a fun idea for this project. The part that was intended to catch on was the idea of surprise group collaborations. It was fun to plan, and hopefully a bit fun to see from the outside. I am not personally super-interested in polar bears, but it was great to work on a project together with my friends.

Now -- who wants to join me in a giant cheese slope mosaic flash moc? I say this teasingly, but now as I think about it, it might be fun (for me, at least) to see one design colored 30 different ways... ;-)

Seriously? I know smack talk was encouraged during the CCC, but it isn't all over this forum. Why get off topic in this thread? And more importantly why disrespect another group project publicly? Humor at the expense of others, is not funny and just plain rude.

End mod moment:

Anyway...back on topic, building is good. If a group of people can come together and build something all related yet in their own styles, more power to them. Enjoy the build. Maybe the back story isn't your thing, it isn't mine in this case, but I respect creativity and writing...and more importantly having the guts and courage to step out and put something new out into the community, especially if it isn't in their normal style. If all the hype got them noticed for it, well that is just plain and simple advertising.

Enjoy it.

Plus it gives those who love to wrestle polar bears, a secondary source of polar bear victims to go after, since polar bears in both LEGO and real form are getting rare...not to mention expensive.

Katie,

I do love the idea of a flash MOC. I'd join your mosaic plan, but I only have a smattering of cheese slopes. I actually would love to build some bear warriors, and am very tempted to sacrifice my polar bear - I guess I've only ever used him in one MOC as a ghost bear who appeared to a Native American. They remind me of the bears in the Golden Compass.

I'm on board with the awesome-ness of Polar Bear People. It certainly whets the appetite for other Animal People to be created.

My brain is running on overdrive now that I've had a night to sleep on this idea of "Flash MOC'ing". Let's see if I can recruit some people for my idea, heh heh.

Hope you can get a good sized group together. The idea is pretty neat, hope to see lots of these popping up all over the place :D

I would love to do a cheese slope mosaic! I dont have a huge amount of them, but I have a decent collection. Most of the stuff Katie does blows my mind. I don't think I would put out anything that great, but it would be fun trying.

And again, the whole idea of the flash moc and collaborating like this is fantastic. I hope this takes off.

I think another great idea would be to paint your ostriches Yellow and have knights riding upon them. Chocobo Knights!

Hey Fraslund,

No need to sacrifice your ostriches. Several years ago Jonesy came up with a great design:

There's even a Flickr group with variations on this theme.
