CCCX - Castle - Rochester Castle

Post by Fraslund »

Finally.... I get to show this. This thing is huge. Its half the size of my brickcon project which took 9 months to build. I have been working on this furiously for the past 6 weeks. I am sure I could have gotten another half dozen builds done in lieu of this, but I am happy with how this turned out.

I really had to fight the urge to change the design of the Castle as I wanted to stick to the basic design of the castle as much as possible even though from a style perspective is relatively plain. This castle has a very rich history which started shortly after William the Conqueror and was the main defense in Southeastern England until if fell into desrepair in the 16th century.

Here is the keep that still stands today:

 Fantastic castle, really like all the detail you were able to include without changing the nice square shape of the castle. The red you added is suberb and the keep is extreamly well done! Great job!

One word, awesome. Lots of detail in this like gid617 also said, what makes this more awesome that it is based on a real castle.
You have done a great job on this :D

Outstanding! I wish we could see more if it. You need to post more pics on Flickr under a separate set.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I had several concerns going into this project and was worried about the time it was taking me to complete. Whenever you do a large project like this its every hard to step back and look at it as a whole to make sure everything comes together and it looks decent.

Can we do that? I was planning on uploading high res pics of all my stuff after the contest has ended.

Thanks! I watched the movie Ironclad last year and loved their take on this castle. I immediately had to go and find out as much about it as possible and was impressed with its history. There is so much more to its origins and the many battles it saw. The funny thing is that you could easily add a much larger outer wall with the town and cathedral... Not that I would ever do that :roflol:

Yup. The "non-contest" pics just have to be in a separate set from the contest pics.

Very nice work on the MOC. The height is great and even with the huge size of this thing, there are still a bunch of minifigs to populate this beast! I really want a close-up picture of that crane. I love cranes on castles for some reason.

Beautiful castle. The fact that it is based off of a real one makes it even more impressive.
