LCC-Alliance saga, parts 1 and 2

Post by Crazycrownieguy »

Hey all, here is the first installment of my new epic Lands of Classic-Castle storyline.
Enjoy
CCG

In the middle of this cold moonless night, we see two weary travelers arrive at their destination, after many long days of travelling, Sir Cedric Archer, and Captain Cinder Bonebreaker, have finally arrived at the great city of Hallfrost, where they hope to secure an alliance with their northern brothers.
Image
Sir Cedric Archer turned to his friend, and fellow ambassador, Captain Cinder Bonebreaker, and said "Well, we have finally arrived, lets just hope that there is a guard or two awake."
"Yes, let us hope, it would be rather unfortunate if we had to walk back to the camp at this time of night."
Replied Captain Bonebreaker.

Image
Meanwhile.... City Guard:"Hey Jon, I think there might be someone outside the gates."
Jon: "Do they look like Garheims?"
CG: "yeah"
J: "I'll go wake the Captain, he'll want to great them."

Image
The massive gates opened, and Sir Archer, and Captain Bonebreaker, were greeted by several heavily armed men, and a large wolf.
Image
A man that looked like he was the one in charge, stepped forward, and called out to the two men. "Brother, and Captain Cinder, it is good to see you."
"Likewise, though is this really necessary?" Said Sir Archer, waving his hand in the direction of the wolf, and large contingent of men.
"Sorry Cedric, with the King dead, and Loreos rebelling, the city has been on high alert for the past week."
"I understand, well it's cold, and I'm tired, and I'm sure Captain Bonebreaker is as well, so, will you lead us to the guest quarters? And we can talk to Lord Layfas tomorrow, about the relationship between Hallfrost and Orevale."
With that, the guards went back to their posts, and Captain Song, led Sir Archer and Captain Bonebreaker, to the guest quarters.

Hey everyone, hope you liked the story, any C&C you may have is much appreciated. :D

Nice build! I really like the detailing around the gate and the corners. The night effect is nice, too. Great job!

I agree with Ronin. I like that this build was centered around the nighttime. It has given me some insight on doing some builds with a nighttime theme!

I'm glad you guys both like the night affect. :D Do either of you think there is anyway I could have improved the build?
thanks

Well, I AM biased but you could use a lonely pine tree :eyebrows: haha I love pine trees. Or if Hallfrost is on the tundra or the driftplains a bush or grass like snowberry or rye - maybe a boulder. The city itself was flawless. :D

I tend to agree with Ronin here on the lack of anything in the landscape. Of course, I would imagine that the immediate ground outside most castles, cities is quite bare, but some change in the landscaping would be nice. It is quite flat. Maybe some slumps of snow? I am not good at all with snow, but something to consider would be the snow piled up against in the wall?

Just some insight :)

Well Hallfrost is supposed to be located in The Great Driftplains, near the coast line, so there wouldn't really be that many tree's, though I guess I could have added a bush or some grass  Well, I'll just have to remember it for my next Hallfrost build.

Thanks for the input! See, now I wish I had taken some better pictures, because there was snow piled up against the walls, and I'm sure if I had taken a few close-ups (which I thought I did, until after I had taken it apart, I looked back, and realized that, no, I actually hadn't taken any close-up pics. ) It would have been easier to see the piles of snow.

LCC-Alliance saga, pt 2, Negotiations

Post by Crazycrownieguy »

Hey guys, here is part 2 of my new epic storyline!
Enjoy!
CCG

part 1
The next day.....
Captain Archer: "So brother, how long should this meeting take? Me and Captain Cinder would like to be on the road by midday tomorrow."
Captain Song: "It should only last a few hours at most, don't worry Cedric, we'll make sure that you leave on time."
CA: "Good, now, when do we get to the palace? It feels like we have walked have the distance to Orevale, by now."
CS: "It should only be a little longer, brother."
The small company walked on in silence, until they came upon a great palace, located in the heart of the city.

Image
"Ah, finally, I presume this is the palace?"
Said Captain Archer.
"Yes brother, this is the palace. Shall we go inside?" Replied Captain Song.
Captain Archer: "Yes, let us go inside."
The small party walked up to the doors

Image
And entered the great hall of Nal-guth, hall of the messenger.
Image
The great doors closed, leaving the guards to speculate as to what exactly they were discussing.
Image

Hey everyone, I hope you enjoyed part 2 of my new story arc :D Part 3 should be up tomorrow.
Any Comments or Constructive criticism is welcome. :)

Great build! There's some excellent detailing in that wall and the doors look great. Nice job on the story, too; I'm excited to see your GC4 build. I'm putting the finishing touches on mine - it'll make the deadline but barely.

I really like nighttime shots, but I think that instead of just making the whole picture dark, you should practice with some different lighting techniques to add a bit more character to the scene. Right now, everything is just sort of universally dark, which makes the pictures seem a bit flat.

I don't have much experience with it, personally, but a few fellow Garhims have done special lighting to great effect. These are some good examples:

"Planning is Needed!" by Brother Steven
Image

"Sir Angus Finds the Sword" by Brother Steven
Image

(This one isn't quite nighttime, but you can see a good technique in use at least)
"Library" by Atahlus
Image

There is also a good series of pictures by Invicta Bricks (Thomas Arrowford) that is from their "Operation Russel" where he uses either some sort of post-edit filter or maybe a blue light to accomplish a very similar effect to what you're doing. You might get in touch with him to ask how he did it.

Great storyline.
Keep up the good work!

I would like to see a little more variety in your photo series. These are all taken from the same angle so it doesn't show much action other than the characters walking through a doorway. Maybe one from the side, one from inside the hall looking out as they enter, etc. (in fact, I'm pretty sure pictures #1 and #4 are the exact same photo) :D

Looking forward to future developments, and I love your guard figures :)
