Dear Lego....

Post by PsychoPixie »

Dear designers of lego castle,

It has been brought to my attention that you have discontinued *again* the current line of castle and medieval sets. While I completely understand that you need to update your collections regularly, I really do wish you would find something to replace them that is at least in the same genre'. You also need to bring back some of the more classic styles for builds.

Many of the new sets you offer have highly specialized pieces, and cannot be easily used for creative, imaginative play for children. they are more like a build it yourself action figure fortress. They cannot be turned into something totally new. In the early 90's a parent could buy 1 large set, and there would be enough pieces for the child to totally recreate the set. Now, a set at the same price has half the pieces, and they really can only be put together one way for effective play. It makes me sad.

I would really like for you to have a "bulk piece" buy option on your website as well. There are so many people who do M.O.C. builds that would buy pieces in bulk from you if they could!

Thank you for your time.

Lego does have an online Pick a Brick option, but it is rather over priced and the selection is not that great.
For bulk brick, Bricklink is the best bet. That or LugBulk if you are in a LUG.

The Pick a Brick walls in Lego stores can be a good resource, but Bricklink is the go-to site for most AFOLs

Now i may be wrong, but lego set prices havent gone up that much. They are about the same as when i was a kid for a similar set with the exception however of the licensed them sets. Yhat being said,

Dear lego castle team,

Could you please design a castle that isnt a pannel build with play ability. I really liked the kingdoms joust set. So much so i am thinking of buying a 3rd set for more parts! Im really dissapointed that all the castle sets are panel build when so much could be done with bricks. I would be more then happy to spend 150+ on a 2500 piece castle with minimal panels. Just my thoughts.

This!!! So much this!!!

What i miss most about old sets is the large qty of brick pieces, there would be a few specialized panels, but mostly, your castle walls would be built brick by brick. It allowed so much more flexability. The object of lego play is to be creative and build new things. The sets these days are so limited in scope due to all the panels and specialty pieces.

The chess set they sell with the soldiers, king/queen and wizard is awesome for minifigs. The curent joust set has some great pieces for medieval towns too. But they discontinued the wonderful kingdoms sets last year that had wonderful stuff. I was so sad they discontinued the kingdom sets before our finances allowed me to purchase some.

I cannot find anything on lego.com to indicate you can buy in bulk. I am aware of the pick a brick walls at the stores, but you are limited to what they currently have in stock. I want bulk packs of some very specific stuff that is almost NEVER there. Someone mentioned bricklink... but again, cant find info, can someone put a link for me????

Did you try Googling "Bricklink" by any chance?

http://www.bricklink.com/

It can be a little daunting to navigate, and I'm still learning how to use many of the resources it contains. If you need any help finding something, just let me know.

Part of the difficulty is knowing what to search for. If you want some basic castle building parts, searching by color can be useful, since you might discover parts you didn't even know existed in colors like light bluish gray (new gray, also known as "bley" among AFOLs).

Using the tabs near the top of the page, use "Catalog > Colors > Light Bley Parts" and then try categories like Brick, Brick Arch, Brick Modified, Slope, Plate, Door, Tile, etc.

Here is a link to all of the bricks that come in Light Bley: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.as ... =P&catID=5
Here are all of the arches that come in Light Bley: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.as ... &catType=P

Once you've selected which element you want, click on it's part number and then reselect the color you want in the "Lots for Sale" section. This will show you every available lot of that part in that color.

Anyway, that's a basic tutorial. Like I said, feel free to PM me if you need any help using the site.

As for the Lego shop-at-home PaB option, here is the link for that: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Pick-A-Brick-ByTheme
(you can also just search "pick a brick" with the site's search bar)

Which castles are you referring to with brick-built walls? The only castle that comes to mind is the old Yellow Castle. The castles of the 80s all have panels as far as I know. The Helm's Deep set is the first large castle I know of with brick-built walls.

Wait one moment; has Lego discontinued the 2013 Castle sets that have started coming out this month? Or was this a reference to something else?

I believe it was in reference to the "Kingdoms" line from 2010-12

The current "Castle" line is still very much in production :)

Ah, I see. Thank you.

I was also a big fan of Kingdoms. It is unfortunate that it didn't go on a little longer, but on the bright side, I like the look of most of the new Castle sets, especially the minifigures. They're not out where I live yet, unfortunately.

reference to old castles:: Example; #6090. the Royal knights castle.

Yes, it had many panels, but it also had a great base, and enough other pieces, such as arches, pillars, and basic small bricks, to allow for some very creative play.

Thank you for the info and search suggestions for Bricklink. Much appriciated!!! And a huge thank you to all the positive comments!

I have yet to see a 2013 castle series, unless you refer to the kingdom chess set and that one big jousting set. I thought those were part of the 2010-2012 kingdom series. Or do the Lord of the Rings sets get counted as a "castle" series?

See?
Some folk we never forget
Some kind we never forgive
Haven’t seen the back of us yet
We’ll fight as long as we live

I'm a TFOL, and I still use bricklink. It's great. Not only can you get any lego part, set, minifigure, or product ever made, but it has a much better selection than pick a brick and is cheaper.

In the UK, LEGO stores (so Pick a Brick) can be hard to get to because the stores are not that common and tend to only be in the larger cities. I haven't Bricklinked anything yet, but I really should, as it's a brilliant site. It is hard to navigate, but I'm getting used to it :)
