HELP: Feeling for CMF Series 10

Post by royalbrickcustoms »

Hey guys,

I was thinking of going to Target today and picking up some more CMF Roman commanders (3-5 of them) as well as a few Warrior Woman figs. I have read the Brick Blogger's article on "feeling" for the Series 10 CMFs and I intend to bring a printout of the article so I can know what to look (or rather feel) for.

I have never bought any sealed CMFs before and have only used the "feel" method once (I was successfully able to identify a Series 10 Sea Captain and at least one Librarian).

Does anyone have any other tips you could give me **hint, hint AK_Brickster**, to make my searching efforts more fruitful?

Thanks in advance,

~RBC

You feel for the unique parts that each fig has. Medusa is easy. Most of the women figs in dresses are easy. Basically when you are trying to figure it out, bring one of the sheets and look at the figs as you feel. You'll be able to tell which is pretty easy if you have a visual in front of you.

For the S10 Roman, the little plume is easiest to find. It usually trickles down into a corner where it can easily be located and identified. Also, the little "bill" on the back of the helmet helps distinguish it from other helmets.

For the warrior woman, the shield and spear are dead giveaways.

They key to "fast feeling" is actually knowing what ISN'T the fig you're looking for. Has a dress slope? Not a warrior woman or roman. Funny backpack? Chunky shoulder armor? Paint bucket? As soon as you know it ISN'T what you want, don't worry about figuring out what it is, just set it aside and try the next one.

After you buy one fig, take it out to the car, open it, and bring the little paper insert back into the store. That way you'll have a nice little fold-out guide to what to find.

What I do is find a little open patch of shelf, and as I'm going through the bags I lay them out in a 4x4 grid matching the layout on that insert. That makes it easy to keep track of what you've found and what you're still seeking, whether you want to get a complete set, or just get all 16 laid out and then decide which figs you want. Look for what's unique and relatively easy to feel in each fig. E.g. one of the ones I really wanted from this series is the grumpy old man, because I want to give my sig-fig that bald head piece. It turns out that's the only fig with a 2x2 tile, which is pretty easy to feel. Other things are pretty obvious, like the shield, the paint roller, or the medusa legpiece. Long thin pieces like the spear, the musket, even the wrench are pretty easy to find as it is easy to shake them down to the corner of the bag. Once you start laying them out in order, you can often start recognizing bags pretty quickly as ones you've already felt.

Be careful with the painter. I've confused his hat with the baseball player and his roller handle with the paintball guy. The roman guy's sword is usually pretty easy to find. So is the plume from his helmet. And AK is right, the spear and shield make the warrior woman easy to find.

Congratulations. Will you sell or keep him? I'd sell him, if it were me. He could finance my Lego budget for a year.
