Arrows in the Night

Chip Oakenbrow was traveling across the Lenfel countryside under the full moon, on his way to rendezvous with his fellow forest rangers. Suddenly he was ambushed by a renegade group of outlaws. Chip raised his bow, and with a twang and a thud his arrow struck the lead outlaw. It looked like a long night of fighting lay ahead for the valiant Chip Oakenbrow.

Well, this is my entry into the Art of War contest over at LCN. I was inspired by some of the previous entries' success with silhouettes, and so I thought I would try my hand at one at well. Thanks for viewing!

Excellent! The full moon works perfectly and I love the arrow+blood spurt effect. Great representation of an archer (I am biased  )

This is a really great scene, I like the sense of motion. Almost as if I can head the "THWUMP!" of the arrow hitting him. :)

Really cool looking photo. I think you have a great shot in the contest. I'm just curious, was the photo edited? Really impressive either way.

Thanks! Yes, I cropped the photo and then touched it up a little on gimp, but other than that I didn't do anything too major. :)

Hey,

I've already commented over on Flickr, but the effect here is amazing. Great use of lighting.

Wow! The arrow and blood effect is great! I also like the sideways hood, and the moon in the background.

Hey Sgt Chipmunk, I hope you don't mind, but I went through and did a tutorial in the publishing section based on this image.

Tremendous picture, you really nailed the idea of the contest. The use of a t-shirt for the sky is quite effective!
Excellent posing and landscape too, the rounded hills give a neat effect :)

That really is a brilliant technique. I may have to try something like this myself.

The colors you used are perfect here. Wish there was a way to get fletching on the arrow, but as others have said, the feathers as blood spurting works really well. Good luck with the contest!
