Thanks AK,

You beat me to it.

Please DO NOT comment if you don't think you are going or you wish you could go but can't. This is a thread dedicated to coordinating builds, etc., for those who will be participating. So if you're not going, i'm sorry, but please do not post in this thread. It helps to be less cluttered for us.

On topic:

Those who are going, do you have any idea what independent LCC builds you will be building? Have you thought of anything specific? I plan on bringing my Outlaw army, and building an Outlaw castle. After that, I would love to coordinate with some of you guys and make something BIG. :)

I realize the fair isn't for 9 1/2 months, but if we plan accordingly, we could utilize that time to make something really amazing.

I hadn't planned on bringing anything other than my contributions to the collab(s). Maybe just a little vig or something but nothing too big. Me and Mark had discussed jokingly about having a "Gathering of Yursuffs". We planned to take a picture at BF last year but I forgot to bring my Yursuff :P Anyone interested?

It wouldn't be an LCC build without Yursuff! :)

What did you guys have in mind for the gathering? Like, a bunch of different Yursuff's, or Yursuff in different costumes?

I'm not sure. I suppose me and Mark and a few others were just going to group them together and take a couple of funny pictures. Maybe we can have a giant camel dealership? Or a camel race? I would think that if we do any LCC themed collab, there is at least a 99% chance everyone's favorite camel dealer will be hidden and or in attendance.

In order to make some progress on the actual collab though, I think we should let some of these display ideas brew and let others join the mix and finally vote on everyone's favorite sometime after the CCC?

A used camel dealership Loreesi style. Priceless.

Yeah I think after the CCC and even Brickfair Alabama we can begin to really brainstorm. Still, until that time, if anything comes to anyone's mind share it here for future references

I have a fairly large Loreesi army I could join "against" yours SSchmidt. :)

I could build a 64x64 stud baseplate display of my Loreesi troops (20-30+) attacking the walls of Trykiad (sorry I don't know how to spell it). I could bring the baseplate and my troops, and you (SSchmidt) could bring yours.

I most likely will come (and REALLY want to). :D

I'll probably bring some of my (upcoming) CCCXI builds as well. :)

Also, how much does it cost to display at BFVA?

That's a cool idea RBC. Something for us to think about! :)

It is $52.00 to register as an exhibitor.

This link will answer all your question. I think I will insert it into the main post too.

Thanks. The link goes to the 2014 BFAL page not BFVA. :)

I'll draw up a diagram of the set up I was thinking of tonight and post a pic of it in this thread (and on Flickr) later.

Right now I have only 15-18 Loreesi troops, but I'm placing a few large bricklink orders in the next few weeks, and that number will likely double (maybe triple).

On a side note, I'm currently (not exactly this second though) in the proccess of listing my Mr. Gold on eBay (somewhere in the low $550-$760s range) so I'll have about $150-$200 of "brick" spending money soon. :)

If you want to buy him just PM me. Sorry for getting off topic. :(

Can I have a little clarification. Are you planning on just bringing a baseplate full of troops, or a display?

This is something SSchmidt and I are doing, probably not everyone.

Well if it's just a baseplate full of minifigs that's not really in the spirit of a convention. You're supposed to show off your building skill and creativity, not how much money you can spend to replicate or produce an entire army of soldiers. I don't have a problem with people who have 20+ soldiers in a battle or a marching formation for instance, but it kind of irks me when I see a baseplate full of minifigs just sitting there. No creativity. No imagination. Just wasted potential.

No it would be a MOC of the gate of the city of Trykid being sieged by my forces, not just a baseplate with a bunch of figs on it. :) There would be foliage and a river and rocks too. :)

I'm not part of the BFVA discussion, but thought I'd respond to this. I don't think that conventions are 100% based on skill and creativity. They are also about entertainment value. If it were not the case, then massive MOCs like Hogwarts wouldn't have such universal appeal and huge throngs of people pushing in to get a better look (not to say that there isn't a lot of creativity going on in that MOC, but what it really has going for it in terms of crowd appeal compared to the myriad of other amazing MOCs at a convention is obviously the scale). On the same note, a fantastic vignette with tons of NPU will probably be overlooked by most, because the majority of the public doesn't know what they're looking at, so they don't recognize the genius of using a part for an unintended purpose.

In that vein, I think that massive army displays have a lot of appeal to the public, particularly young kids who unequivocally adore minifigs more than most adults do. We set up a few hundred castle figs on a table at BrickCon just charging towards each other, and everyone loved them, so I'd be careful about criticizing someone's contribution, because you never know how it will be received by the public.

I don't think a huge baseplate of minifigs is any more of a show of "how much money you can spend" than a 100,000 piece MOC is. Sure, it might be a different investment of time and creativity, but a lot of people (myself included) actually spend many hours fiddling around with fig combos and assembling their troops, so it's not really fair to poo-poo their efforts just because their contribution doesn't match what your expectations are.

Hey RBC,

Not sure if we will be able to work it out or not (depends on what I build). Either way though, lets keep it in the back of our minds. I do (time permitting) plan on building my Castle and would love someone to siege it. Hopefully we will be able to work it out! :)
