Isildur's Helmet
Hey everybody,
here's my new prototype: Isildur's Helmet
This is a pre-production 3D model, I would like to have your opinion before sending it to production.
There's also a new model of floating cape: still I'm not satisfied with TLC solid capes or cotton capes, I decided to make them myself. It could be produced also on a large scale and in several colors if many people are interested. All my custom pieces are made in ABS (not resin).
What do you think?

I really like that helmet design K3G! It is really cool! Will it stay steel color, or have a design?

Re: Isildur's Helmet
I really like this design as well. I can picture it in multiple colors; black, silver, white, gold. Very suitable for leader types, kings, etc.
On the cape my question would be how does it work with armor? Would the neck area of the cape fit well with the "shoulders" are of the armor? I think it would look cool on figures with no armor.

Re: Isildur's Helmet
I really like this helmet design, but I liked it even more before I saw the "blade" on the rear. I think it would be better without that rear blade.
Re: Isildur's Helmet
I do like this helmet quite a bit. However, I am not so much of a fan of the way the face places (?) "fan out" or rather, are at an angle. I think it would look better if they were closer to perpindicular to the face, similar to the way the bullet helm's sides are.

Hey guys, thanks for your comments.
And what about the cape?

Re: Isildur's Helmet
I really like the crown and could see it being made in gold, black, steel, silver and white.
But I'm not a fan of the cape. I could see it being used on single figures but its very limited in what you could do with it. You couldn't use it on figures on horses or characters wearing armor.
It would be good to add some movement and atmosphere to standing characters in MOCs as the cape looks like it is flowing in the wind.
Have you got a side view of the cape so we can see how far it stands out from the figure?

Re: Isildur's Helmet
I think I'll always be a cloth cape guy. They are posable and easily used with many different configurations (ie, with armor, without armor, on horseback, with epaulettes, with long hair, with short hair, etc.)
I rarely, if ever, use the TLG plastic capes with my figs.
I do like the helmet though.

A really sweet helmet and I would purchase a few. Although, due to copyright laws, are you legally allowed to call it that name? May be better to give it a different name.

Re: Isildur's Helmet
I like the helmet design except for the side and rear blades. They would look out of place on common warriors [except perhaps nobles] . Also side and rear blades would trap blades in a battle and you don't want that. I've always liked the cloth cape look although mine are made of egg carton cardboard until I amass some more Lego resources. The capes could be used by royalty or castle ladies but could be a problem for warriors already wearing armour or bundles of arrows across the back. I applaud your effort though. One thing I think Lego needs is a lot more animals including wolves, tigers, lions, etc. etc.

Re: Isildur's Helmet
I believe that this sort of helmet is intended to be worn by generals, nobles, and other high-ranking troops. As it stands now, we don't have a lot of options in that area (whereas we have several options for "regular" troops already), so this would be a nice addition, I think.ForestFriend wrote:They would look out of place on common warriors [except perhaps nobles]
Re: Isildur's Helmet
Agreed. Isildur was the Crown Prince in Lord of the Rings, son of High King of Gondor Elendil. I would definitely use this for like tower guards or something, but not standard troops.AK_Brickster wrote:I believe that this sort of helmet is intended to be worn by generals, nobles, and other high-ranking troops. Also, I am not a fan of the cape, as it is plastic. I much prefer the standard lego cloth cape, as they have multiple uses, and are more posable. I do like how it looks, I would just never use it except as an NPU.

Re: Isildur's Helmet
I mostly love the cape but for some reason the shoulders look "wrong" to me. The way they extend over the shoulders may look natural on real capes but for some reason I want my LEGO capes to be more like the old solid ones that did not extend all the way out over the shoulders.

Re: Isildur's Helmet
Maybe the problem is that it doesn't wrap down over the shoulders *enough*?
Maybe if the "fabric" came down and covered the shoulders just a little, it would look more realistic. I'm thinking of something kind of like this:
