For the custom medieval faction, do we need to use completely new and invented logos/symbols or can we use them from other Lego contexts that were never intended to be medieval.
i.e. Hogwarts Shields; Fire engine logos, or space faction symbols?

For the custom faction category, can we use custom printed cloth accessories like CapeMadness or my own products from Royal Brick Customs Shop?

Is there a restriction regarding to the usage of strings? (only official LEGO strings of course, of course!)

Cheers

The category description does mention only town buildings, so I guess as long as there is some architecture around, you may make anything happen at the square.
That's how I feel it.

Are we going to have the Cross Category Awards again this year? I have really enjoyed that aspect of the last couple of CCCs

See question 11 above for where non-LEGO elements may be used.
rogue27 wrote:Alternate Model - Can we use licensed sets like Hogwart's Castle or Helm's Deep, or does it need to be part of the evergreen Castle line?
Takkata wrote:... monster fighters ... StarWars...
26 - Please limit yourself to the internal Castle line rather than licensed or non-castle themes. For clarification, we have always held that Ninja and Vikings were part of the Castle line (though Ninja would be out for this particular category because those sets had alternate models).
Takkata wrote:Doesn't mean it has to be a castle ... build a forest scene
27 - You are correct in that a 'unique castle creation' for the 'Alternative Model' does not mean that your entry has to be a castle, but instead something that fits into the castle world. Forest scene, village building, siege engine, farm, etc would all be valid sorts of MOCs. But see question 26 above on what source material you can use.

See question 12 above. Purist creations are always welcome.
Rifiröfi wrote:Is there a restriction regarding to the usage of strings? (only official LEGO strings of course, of course!)
28 - Non-LEGO strings are actually okay (see question 11), but I'm guessing you're asking here about cutting strings? Cutting strings and flex tubing has traditionally been seen as reasonably purist in AFOL competitions, as there are actually a couple of official sets (older, non-castle) where the instructions call for cutting them. So no restrictions on strings.
Lolino wrote:OK, this will not fit to this category but does it fits to Medieval Town category? The execution will take place on market so ...
29 - Yes, the category is not just limited to the buildings themselves. There could be lots of things happening in the village, including an execution, a market day, a fair, a religious observance, a battle, people going about their daiily chores, etc. The focus here is on the location and events in a medieval town.
Legonardo wrote:would a joust scene work for the court entertainer category?
30 - Yes, court entertainment is not restricted to just those entertainments happening inside the throne room, but those entertainments for the nobility. So a tournament would be perfectly appropriate.

31 - Seeking to earn a new title? But I was so proud of coming up with CC spriggan for you. But as to the question, yes. The CCC is less than a week old. We wanted to wait a bit to allow the first wave of questions to die down before announcing any add on.

Regarding the rule "each submission is limited to three photographs":
  • 1. Is it allowed to make some adjustments to the MOC between two shots? May I reposition minifigures/other objects, tear down walls, etc. OR do these three images need to show the MOC in a certain state from different angles/closeups?
  • 2. If adjustments are allowed ===> Is it legal/encouraged to tell a story using three different scenes?

32 - We have definitely allowed people to show variations on MOCs in different photos in the past. For instance, if a building opens up to show a furnished interior, you could show one picture of the building closed and one of it open. "Tearing down a wall", though, seems more like actually rebuilding, which wouldn't really fit the contest. OTOH, if you included a removable wall in the MOC, removing that to allow for a different close-up camera angle would be essentially the same thing as a building that opens and closes, so would be allowed (does the distinction make sense there?).
Rifiröfi wrote:Is it legal/encouraged to tell a story using three different scenes?
33 - In past contests we have sometimes had "story" categories. For instance, last year we had the "imprisonment and escape" category that called for a photo of someone being captured, and another of someone escaping from imprisonment. Or the year before we had a "then and now" category that asked for the evolution of a castle over time, or "crime and punishment" a couple of years before that. This year we don't have any such "story" category - all of our categories call for one MOC each. We will discuss whether you can move figs and items around within that MOC to create a storyline and get back to you.
-Edit- We've discussed this, and come to a consensus that your entry should be one MOC, not a series of MOCs, and not a MOC that is transformed from one picture to the next. Just as a hint for those asking about this - there are ways to have one MOC still tell a story. For instance, you could have different things happening in different parts of the MOC.

I don't think so :)

Yes, I did remember those categories and was curious if storytelling by separate vignettes is generally allowed. I have a solid plan for the "Trial and Error" category containing 3 closely coupled vignettes (invention, beginning of the test flight and its abrupt termination). Based on your answer this entry would appear pretty soon in the naughty list, am I right?

Yea, something like what I wanted to do to but I was wanting to make the vehicle fall in a hidden pit which might make it legal to show it falling in, right? Plus, could I show one other (I just would do three total of course  ) with just the vehicle? :) We can make a short story for every entry though, right?

Can the Secret Hideout category be fantasy? For instant floating castle? That is just an example, or have castles up on the tops of trees, etc?

A technical question: why is the resolution of the images limited to 800x600? The images are not hosted by classic-castle.com and it is not an issue at all to make photos with higher resolution even with a mobile phone. 800x600 might be more than sufficient for a minifig category but in case of a huge castle you won't see much of the details.

Is this a judging-related restriction? Does it have historical reasons and might became obsolete? This should be clarified before the submission page becomes available. I have seen some soon-to-be-submitted entries, most of them will end up in the naughty list due to their size.

I know you admins are using lots of time doing this contest, I also that you probably aren't able to answer as quick as you like because your busy, but I'd like you to answer my question since I won't be able to do hardly anything after Wednesday. Can I show a vehicle in the air, and then crashing into a pit which was not visible while it was flying (at least not the inside) and can I do at least a short story for each build? Like just a few sentences :) . Oh and can I darken the pics? Thanks a lot!
