Ninjago help

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey,

My son is really into the Ninjago cartoon (I think he's mainly watched the first season, over and over again on Netflix). For Christmas we're going to give him a couple of Ninjago sets, but I also want to BrickLink the other major characters so he can play out adventures. Am I right in that this would give him a fairly complete set:

I know there are like six iterations of each character, but I want to start by making sure he has one of each of the main guys. Are there specific weapons each of the four main guys fights with? What hairs should I get for them when they're not wearing their ninja hoods? Also, are Nya and Lloyd very important? I've only watched a couple of episodes with him, but they seem kind of like sidekicks. I gather that Lord Garmadon is the main villain, but what would be a couple of other basic villains for them to fight?

Edit: I've read through the Wikipedia page, and I really don't think he's watched the second and third season. So, for instance, I think that the green ninja would not be so important to him. Also, are the snakes just in the second season? I still think i'll probably get one or two of those, since he'll think they look cool.

Thanks!
Bruce

Those are the main characters. Nya is kinda important, as she is Jay's (the blue ninja) girlfriend, and Kai's (the red ninja) sister. But Lloyd comes later, so he is not entirely important.

Cole's (black ninja) weapons is the golden earth scythe, Jay's weapon is the golden lightning nunchucks, Kai's weapon is the golden fire sword, Zane's (white ninja) is the golden shurikens of ice, and Sensei Wu's weapon is a quarterstaff. I don't know Garmadon's weapon, I think it is like a lighting wizard staff, I think.

I have no idea which season goes with which, can't help you there. :tasty:

Isn't Lloyd Lord Garmadon's son? And he is/becomes the green (and ultimately the gold) ninja? I may be completely wrong, but that I was I gleaned from the catalog descriptions...

Yes, Lloyd is Lord Garmadon's son, and yes, he becomes the green ninja. I don't know who the gold ninja is, but I definitely know for certain he is the green ninja.

Yes Lloyd is the green ninja also Bruce if you wan t more of the main characters from the first wave you might also want to get a couple of the skeletons like the ones with the big heads they seem to have a bigger role then the other skeletons.

Okay, cool. It looks from the Wikipedia description that the story line of Lloyd ultimately becoming the green ninja is in the second season. Also, from the stand point of a four year old boy, the fact that Nya is Jay's girlfriend is probably less interesting, so I'm going to go with something like this (depending on price and availability and minimizing the number of stores I buy from):

Thanks guys,

Nice it looks great Bruce! The only thing is, is that the snakes are in the second season, while the skeletons are in the first. I would swap out that green snake minifig with another skeleton.

I'd keep the snake. More diverse bad guys that way, which seems like a higher priority for a four year old than sticking strictly to only season one characters :)

Well, if you want diversity, then yes, by all means keep the snake. But if he hasn't watched the second season, the green snake would not really make sense. Still, it is your choice Bruce, choose what ever you think your son will like. :)

Bruce,

You should probably buy him at some point the book and it comes with the green ninja. The only problem you're gonna have afterwards is that all of the characters are shown in it. ;)
