Second entry to CCC XI. Secret Hideout category.
The ruins of the cathedral had been deserted for years. Now however, it has been arranged by a ring of road thieves to be their observation point and secret den. Having dug a tunnel under a nearby road, they are ready to use their cunning trap to assault unwary merchants...
The trap is fully playable and working. Pressing one of the stones, you can see the trap go off and the thieves reveal their secret...

OK, but now seriously: what are road thieves without a bush-like disguise? There are some rules even the criminals must follow...

Re: CCCXI The Trap
Really cool play features! The road that caves in is awesome, but I am equally impressed by the two thieves who "spin" out of their disguise when it happens. Very nice, fluid movement!

Re: CCCXI The Trap
Nice Work! I saw this on Flickr a few days ago. The ruins are great but like Schmidt said, the trap is awesome!
I would love to know how you managed to pull of the thieves spinning and the trap falling in unison.
Happy Building,
Sir Valiant~

Brilliant mechanics! Love the ruined look and overgrowth around.

Re: CCCXI The Trap
Very clever design for the trap and the ruins look cool too. I also like the "cut-away" design of the pathway, very nice.

Sorry for late reply, thanks for the comments anyway fellas
There is a single axle inside that connects all three moving elements by three arms, each blocking one from movement. When the button is pressed, it twists the axle a bit, which turns the arms to release everything at once.
Once they are unblocked, the thieves turn around thanks to normal rubber bands, whereas in the trap it's all up to gravity
Hope that satisfies your curiosity, as a fun-fact I may say that it took me even longer than the cathedral itself to make it all work properly. But after taking everything apart and starting anew, all began to work. That relief...
The mechanism is pretty simple, I didn't manage to take a picture though, so some description must do.Sir Valiant wrote:I would love to know how you managed to pull of the thieves spinning and the trap falling in unison.
