You mean the Mirkwood Elf Army set? I have that one, it is amazing! Very worth it!

Not exactly what I was thinking of, I was thinking more along the lines of 12-13 dollar battle packs, like Star Wars. :)

Yes, I agree with Matt, what about smaller $12 ones like in star wars? I'd totally go for a riders of rohan one, is probably buy 2. What about a rider like the soldier in uruk hai army, mounted, another one, mounted, with a new helmet mold that's like the bullet helmet but without the chinstrap and with a nasal guard and different torso and leg and face printing, a different one, unmounted, with a bow and quiver, and a 4th one, bare headed, and armed with a sword. The mounted ones would be armed with the rubber tipped spear, and it would also include a little structure, like a weapon track or something. :spin:

I guess lego thinks that SW sells a bigger volume of sets, so they can make a big profit off of a $12 4-fig army builder, whereas LOTR sells slower, so they need to use figs to sell bigger sets. I think lego is making a mistake, and $12, 4-fig sets of Rohan, Gondor, Armored Elves (Helms deep, then Mirkwood), Armored Orcs (Moria, then Mordor), Dale, Armored Dwarves (Erebor, then Iron Hills), etc.

There's nothing really wrong with the $30 battlepacks that include a couple orcs, except that there hasn't been enough of them! And the elf one didn't include any armored elves, only hooded ones that weren't in the movie! How well does Lego think a make-believe hooded Clone Trooper would go over in a SW set?

Yes, I agree. Either make $12 ones, or make more of the $30 ones. There's gonna have to be something for the battle of 5 armies, but what about a Gondor Knight army in LOTR wave 3? There have been some rumored gondor sets, (osgiliath, minas tirith) but what about one like he uruk hai army, with a section of wall, 2 orcs with a catapult, 3 gondor knights and either a ranger, a captain, or Denethor? That would be a perfect time to make those epic gondor shields.

What about an Ent attack? Have an Ent like the one from Orthanc and some Uruk-hai. And maybe toss in Merry or Pippin to ride the Ent.

I did some thinking and research today. The Star Wars battle packs that seem to be the model for what we expect for LOTR minifig battle packs came out after there had been about 9 years worth of sets and product. I can't see LOTR making a 9+ year run unfortunately. On the other side, minifigs and their popularity among the community were not at the same height they are today. Hope remains. :wink:

Lone Rangers is another license where they did a $13, 4 fig bp in the first, and only year. It's just not the direction Lego felt like going with LOTR, I guess.

That's a good point and a good find. Toy Story also had what could be called a battle pack with such a short run. I guess they figured sets with minifigs like the Uruk-hai Army and Mirkwood Elf Army will sell better at a higher price point than regular battle packs. That doesn't change the fact I want the smaller battle packs.

That sounds interesting. It would depend on how they price it, but that sounds like a good idea! I like it! :)

True Kev, but I think the lotr and hobbit lego lines are more liked than the Lone Ranger. I think they will last longer, especially if more castle and lotr builders spring up. I agree with Quickblade22, I still would love to see the smaller battle packs. I think they would make awesome birthday presents as well, I know my brothers would love it!

Smaller battle packs would be awesome! LEGO should realise that FOLs like us would buy quite a few of them to build large armies - it's got to be a money-maker!

So I've got a question that is very pertinent to this thread but does not garner its own thread.

A lot of us have been saying we would like Battle packs that are in the $10-$15 range.

If you were LEGO, and were making said battle packs, what would you make? What would it consist of? What would be inside?

Allow me to list some of what I think would be good. Feel free to follow my execution in your battle packs.

Battle Pack #1 - Rohan Soldiers
2 Rohirrim figures, each with spear, shield, Rohan Soldier helm. 1 with a cape and 1 with a quiver. Around 20 pieces
2 Uruk-Hai Soldiers with helm, uruk sword and shield. One would have a breastplate. Around 15 pieces
Uruk Axe Cart. A movable cart on wheels (similar to the treasure chest one in Forest Ambush) with axes that can turned with the push of a lever for playability. Around 20 pieces.
Rohan Base corner (similar to the fort in Lone Ranger Calvary). A few wooden logs with a fire and a place to store extra equipment, gear. Around 20 pieces.

Price = $12.99
Around 75 pieces with 4 minifigures

Battle Pack #2 - Ruins of Osgiliath
1 Gondor soldier, with spear, Gondor shield and helm. Also with sword. 7 pieces
1 Gondor ranger, with hood (or fili/kili hairpiece), bow and quiver. 6 pieces
2 Mordor/Minas Morgul orcs, one with hair piece and one with helm, one with flail and one with axe, one with shield. 14 pieces
Osgiliath ruins, featuring light bley pieces with masonry bricks. Could consist of a broken down statue, small broken down wall section and small catapult cart. 55 pieces

Price = $12.99
Around 82 Pieces with 4 minifigures

Any thoughts?

Yes SSchmidt, those ideas are exactly the sort of thing I'd like to see. Well priced with a good amount of playability, well, that's my kind of battlepack!

I already started my idea for a rohan pack, but I love your gondor idea!

I like it SSchmidt! Although, those weren't the kind of battle packs I was thinking of. I was thinking more along the lines of a battle pack of 4 Rohan soldiers, a battle pack of 4 gondor soldiers, a battle pack of 4 orcs (all of them with a small build to accompany), etc. Kinda like the Star Wars ones, with a battle pack of 4 clones, a battle pack of 4 droids, etc.

Those were what I was thinking of, but yours is great, and offers flexibility, and money constraints. Like if I got it for my brother for his birthday, I would have to buy only one pack to have both sides. :D

I like it!

I love the idea of Lord of the Rings battle packs as well! I would prefer if each faction got its own pack so there could be more variety of figs for each faction.
