no more barred gates
While the 'gate' used in sets such as Gatehouse Raid is decent, i feel it is over used.
Please give it a rest in favor of some other sort of gate!

Re: no more barred gates
I completely agree. I have about 6 pares of them and still going to bet more. I want to see some good old wooden doors again. Please! The nice and all but what is someone going to do with a dozen of them.

I agree. Lets go back to doors for a while.

Re: no more barred gates
Are we complaining about drawbridges here? I think they provide a cool function to a castle, and if you have a drawbridge, you have to have a portcullis backing it up.
Doors are fine. I like the ones on Helm's Deep. But I prefer them on the keep proper, rather than in the main gate in the wall. Cranking down the drawbridge, and shoving spears or arrows through the portcullis are some of my favorite parts of castley action.

Re: no more barred gates
100% agree with you bro, I love drawbridges.
This is the part we're complaining about. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=42448
It isn't even that I don't like the part, i just feel it is a smidge over used. Not sure why TLG seems to get in a rut with certain elements.
As an aside, I especially like the use of a drawbridge on a secondary or postern gate such as was done in 6090. That is something that, at the time, i'd never have thought of. Was very creative.

I think he is referring to these:

At least that is what I was referring to in my reply of support.

Re: no more barred gates
I have a ton of those, and I can hardly use them as any arches have to be way higher then the actual gates to let men through on horseback. I wish more doors were used these days.

Re: no more barred gates
My mistake; I saw 'barred gates' and automatically thought of portcullis.
Agree that doors are more practical, and should be more common than gates.

Re: no more barred gates
I agree wholeheartedly. I have absolutely no use for those gate pieces (I personally use wooden doors/brick built doors for all my gates, houses, etc) and I would appreciate if LEGO put a little more variety in the sets with the addition of doors.

Re: no more barred gates
Heh, I have none of those. I wouldn't mind at least one pair. But yes, they've definitely been in a bunch of sets, and they are overdone.
