Conan the Barbarian, Valeria, and Deathstalker, Too!

Post by the enigma that is badger »

Recently, I re-watched Conan the Barbarian (and the lesser but still goofy fun Conan the Destroyer) and felt inspired to revisit a Conan figure. Once I built him, it just didn't seem right to leave him without his fierce Valkyrie companion!

Image

Conan, of course, is welding a prototype overmolded Cimmerian PickAxe while I've used a BrickArms Dadao Blade to give Valeria her distinctive curved blade.

Thanks! Here's one more fig I thought would be fun: Deathstalker, Roger Corman's mercenary man-at-arms:

Conan the Barbarian takes its sword-and-sorcery seriously, but Deathstalker II: Duel of the Titans is legend and delirious fun for its Looney Tunes sensibility and tongue-in-cheek playfulness. Roger Corman mined the barbarian theme heartily after Conan's success, but Deathstalker II is hands down the most fun watch.

The updated thread name is a gag I've lifted from the introduction of the film. Get it? ;)

I have yet to see Deathstalker II, but I have watched the first one and found it's 80s cheesiness very humorous! The figure is instantly recognizable!

Very nice, although I think I would have given Conan black hair.

And which face are you using for him, if I might ask? It's a good match.

Awesome throwbacks! The beginning of Deathstalker is hilarious. Try to make that movie today lol.

Thanks! If you enjoyed the first film, you'll love the second; it's very, very much in on the joke, to the point of having outtakes play at part of the credits.

Yes, I know Howard's original character had squared-off black locks, but as much as I love the original stories (and some great artwork from Frank Frazetta), it's hard for me to picture Conan as anything other than resembling a certain Austrian bodybuilder; as such, I tend to favor brown hair for that most famous son of Cimmeria.

The head is, appropriately enough, from the Barbarian collector fig

Heh, alas my circumstance haven't allowed me to be as active as I once was! That said, I definitely plan to keep building figs, and when they're appropriately-themed, I'll be sure to post them here!
