LCC- Lenfald Hans Zarkan

Post by Lord Mercat »

Figured I may as well post this here, considering he's a custom figure and all!

Image

My character here is Hans Zarkan. A Lenfel Mercenary, Hans is a grizzled, bitter veteran of many years of violent battles, and has witnessed more than his fair share of bloodshed. Though never, properly trained, Hans has become a formidable warrior through years of fighting, and countless near-death experiences. He wields a massive blade the like of which would trouble three ordinary men to even lift, though he can swing it with one hand as effortlessly as a child would practice swordplay with a twig. A man of practicality, and with greater allegiance to coin than any pompous lord, or overly entitled noble, Hans is still fiercely loyal to the land of his birth, though he may not favor those who rule it. For Great Lenfald!

Made him a bit back, and was considering entering him into the CCC custom figure category, but decided not to use him for that. I always really liked how he turned out though, so ultimately, he inspired me to make the jump and join LCC.

Thanks! The shoulder area is made of of the new Gamorrean guard headpiece (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=98120pb01), I cut off the pauldrons, drill through the arm of the minifig, and halfway through the pauldron, and then pin them in with some krazy glue (It's really sturdy, and still allows for complete pose-ability).

I like it! Very cool guy, what bothers me though is that it looks like you cut up a dark green cape! Other than that small nitpick, nice fig! :)

Ah, but I did no such thing! So, never fear for I don't use official Lego capes for my customs, I use 3rd party capes, I've found them to work better for custom purposes! :D

Ah, PHEW! :D Glad you didn't cut up a official lego cape, that would have been DEVASTATING!

Of course! It's not very good at cleaning floors, though it works quite well on the occasional mocking Loreesi- sweeps the sand right off of them! :eyebrows:

Three things in general- the blade itself is actually made out of this piece: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30249 It had fallen out of a box in our garage, ended up partially stuck under a box of weightlifting equipment, and one of the sides was cracked- presumably as a result of the ordeal. I found it while doing some cleaning, and was thinking about what to do with it, when the sword idea struck me. I cut out the uncracked, flat side from the piece, and then cut the general shape of the sword, and used a file to file it down into the shape I wanted it to be.

For the hilt of the blade, I used a dark brown spear haft that I glued to the blade. I then filed down a bit of the spear haft so it was flush with the sword blade, and attached the bladeguard (it is attached so that part of it is glued to the blade, and part of the hilt goes up into the guard, which makes it VERY sturdy), made of this (dark brown) shield that I cut in half and filed down to best fit the sword.http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=91884

Finally, I added a few strips of brown cloth to cover up some of the gaps, and stress marks, and viola, I have one really sweet sword!

Wow, now that I can see the sword, you certainly put a lot of effort into it and this fig! I congratulate you on a good job on that sword! It hardly looks like it was cut! :D

That... sword... is... beautiful... No, it's really great, I mean it. I also really like the look of the heavy cloak/ cape looking thing, especially the shoulder area. That's really terrific.

That sword reminds me of some of the Final Fantasy games, maybe 9 or 10 or 11? Can't say that I've seen anyone make a sword that wide before, but hey, to each his own.
