Lego Store Pick-a-brick cases vs cups

Post by bps7772000 »

Muahahaha. I just got back from the lego store. Guess what color I am building in?

So, I had read that you can buy the cases that they have in the back. You have to ask the employee's there. I would imagine a lazy employee wouldn't want to be bothered. I'm tired of filling those Pick a brick cups and I don't have the time or patience to stick every brick together then pull them apart later to save a few cents. I'm building primarily in one color so I'm looking to buy in bulk to save $.

Here are the boxes weighed for curiosity... I purchased tan 1x2, tan 2x4 & tan 2x6 cases for the large scale castle I am working on...

1x2 case 5 pounds, 4.2 ounces

2 x 4 case 3 pounds, 8.6 ounces

2 x 6 case 3 pounds, 5.1 ounces

So I opened the 1x2 case. There is no packaging inside, just loose bricks...

Now a large pick-a-brick cup will hold roughly 455-465 1x2 bricks (loose) by my count.

One case of 1x2 bricks fills 6 heaping large PAB cups plus a few extra bricks. I have not opened the 2x4 or the 2x6 cases. 2x4's and larger are pretty easy to stick together in a cup so I suspect you will get less bang for the buck purchasing cases over sticking them together in PAB cups.

I hope this helps someone out!

Great find. Can you do this with all the PAB wall parts?

If they have extra cases in the back of what is on the wall I imagine so. In this case the employee told me he had 6 different cases of tan parts only two of which were even on the PAB wall! I'm so glad I asked. I should have done this ages ago.

Nice! I have heard of buying the cases, and plan on buying some myself someday. :)

Yes you can ask at most stores, if they have extra they will sell it to you.

Mini mod moment.

To the OP, please remove pricepaid for the case. I know the priceing is different at my store. We dont want to lose the oppertunity from the stores or otherwise to buy in bulk.

Also some stores dont allow you to purchase in bulk unless your a member of a lug.

The queen of tan approves! More things built in tan the better.

*non-staff moment*
But I have to agree with Lil_Curt because sometimes we get really nice managers who do nice things for us, then we post it online and it gets public and then the really nice managers have to stop doing the nice things they do for us. For example, we used to be able to buy 15 parts out of the build a fig bin and not have to build a fig, then it got posted online and now we have to build figs.
*end non-staff moment*

I can't wait to see what you build with all of that beautiful tan.
