Heads?

Postby Sir Garth » Tue Aug 31, 2004 9:15 am

What factions have the best heads?
I always liked the ninja heads and the fright knight heads very much. The knights kingdom heads also seemed ok to me.
*And the bulls arrive in kk2*
Cedric the bull: "Hahaha Leo we're here to- wtf?"
*and the bulls see some happy knights bouncing at each other with carts*
Cedric (shocked): "I guess we got the wrong KK''
Bull soldier (frightened): "Lets go back"

I have to agree with Sir Vincent. The smiley heads used in the first 3 castle sets, the Lion Knights, the Black Falcons, the Black Monarchs, and the Forestmen will always be my favorites. They are universal and let the child create the figure's personality, not the other way around.

I like the classic smiley, but I think some of the early printed heads are better. For example, the ones that just add a beard, a mustache, or a bit of hair without being overly detailed and specific like the newer printed heads.

Those early printed heads are perfect for giving your minifigs more variety while still having a very generic look.

I have to agree with rogue here, I think the best ones were the pirates line. some of the guys had plain smileys, but some were scruffier. made for a nice mix. I also like the grim star wars ones, because they make for great battle scenes. Its hard to imagine a fight to the death with a pleasant little smile on your face (unless you'r major time creepy that is)...

Smileys are good, but maybe because I came of age in an era when they were still common, but the other heads were out there too in large numbers, I've never had the incredible attachment to them that the people here have.

I guess I would have to say that I like the Royal Knights Faction's the best.

It has:

Smileys,
Smileys red beard and mustace
Dragon Master red
Dragon Master black
Plain Black (with the ghost)

I love all of these...

I happen to love newer, more detailed figure heads, like in the KKI-KKII lines. They give them a lot of charater. I usually try to give the more detailed heads to sigfigs, and important characters so they can stand out. For common soldiers and background males I use the smiely.

I like a good assortment of heads. The smilies are good for my Lion Knights, I use ninja heads for my Black Falcons, I create a lot of custom mercenaries and other characters, so a printed face is important. The ones I don't use are the Bat Lord, Bull's head with eyepatch, Willa and any heads with glasses, headphones or other modern devices that aren't easily removed. Aside from that, I go nuts swapping heads. :D

Well of course I like the smilely face. I also really like the newer Luke Skywalker face.

I like another one of the classic heads.

Mr.. erm.. The guy with the facial hair. He can be used as a sort of random person and he just looks cool!
Good old smilie is great as well, who says minifigs are ever sad?
As for the new Luke face, well I like it but I prefer the older style.

I like all types of heads, but I use the detailed ones more often than the plain smiley. I don't think that doing so detracts from my creativity. I decide what type of personality a character should have, and I choose a head that is appropriate for that. I don't just say "Well, time to choose a random head. Ah, an angry face. I guess this guy must be angry." Instead, I'll say to myself "Self: this guy is one angry dude. Perhaps the smiley isn't appropriate here. Ah, here we go! An angry face!"
I do still like the classic smiley though. I use it for my generic Falcon figs (they just don't look right with anything else) and also if I'm using a hairpiece (though I do like a bit of variety when it comes to mouth shapes and eyes sometimes).
I've found that the Luke Skywalker face and a lot of the Harry Potter faces (just eyes, eyebrows and a mouth) can all be used to represent the same person with different moods, and I think that's great. For example, you can use the Luke Skywalker face when your character is calm, the Tom Riddle face when he is mildly annoyed, or Lucius Malfoy's head for when your character is angry.

I use a few of the newer 'super-detailed' ones, but typically I prefer any that stick to the classic outline. Classic smiley, original Luke, etc. I like simple faces that have a little bit of detail, yet not overwhelming.

I really like the new KK2 heads actually. Aside from them I like the Starwars Heads. They added just some nice brown eyebrows from Luke and I use those alot for normal people, gives them a little more detail aside the normal smile, without adding too much.

You put my thoughts into excellent words be for I even thought them, Dr. S. I really like a variety of faces. I don't like the super over-detailed ones, though.
