Middle Zealand
Hey all,
Everything is awesome, especially if you are in Middle Zealand, a "wondrous land full of knights, castles, mutton, torture weapons, poverty, leeches, illiteracy, and, um ... dragons."
Hilariously, it seems that some people in New Zealand, including some politicians are mad. This is a slap in the face of all Kiwis (the people, not the fruit or the birds) (who knows, the birds might be mad as well). They're not illiterate! They read books and stuff ... like, um, the Lord of the Rings ... oh, nevermind. BTW, there is no word at this point on whether the citizens of the Dutch province of Zeeland or the small town of Zeeland, Michigan are similarly offended.

Seems like much ado about nothing to me, but so is much political blunder in my eyes.
Silly Kiwis! With so much popularity and fame coming from New Zealand in recent years (ala Peter Jackson's films, as well as pop singer Lorde), they've got hardly anything to complain about!

Re: Middle Zealand
Australia and New Zealand are both sometimes over-sensitive about their international image. It has to do with being the smallest and most remote countries in the English-speaking world and the fact that their dialects are the lowest-prestige in said language group.

Re: Middle Zealand
Every country gets 'insulted' in one way or another, fact. I'm half Welsh, and Welsh people get called nasty stuff all the time, as do the Irish and the Scots. We do the same to the English. People in Britain say that all Americans are fat (I don't!), and in turn I know American's who insult us. It happens, and this is just one big fuss. Often, it's just meant as a joke.
I'm obviously not bothered and wound up by all this, I'm just saying that this joking happens and people should learn to take it. I mean, who could really take comments like that seriously?!

The people don't care, it's our stupid governments that overreact. They're full of boofheads who are out of touch with society.Mr. President wrote:Australia and New Zealand are both sometimes over-sensitive about their international image.

Re: Middle Zealand
That is really interesting, and weird that they would be insulted. Interesting article Bruce!

Re: Middle Zealand
I assumed it was your equivalent of Fox News/Daily Mail winding them up with loaded questions or looking for a dependable nutbar politician. As your neighbours in Ozzie-land might say: no worries.Redav wrote:The people don't care, it's our stupid governments that overreact. They're full of boofheads who are out of touch with society.

Re: Middle Zealand
According to the quote in the article.. "We thought it might not be appropriate. We were not quite sure why it was in there." that's not exactly the voice of outrage lol
Try yelling "WE THOUGHT IT MIGHT NOT BE APPROPRIATE!"
Is it the whole country that has been offended or just the person writing the article?

Re: Middle Zealand
I'd imagine it's the minority (that's something else we find today, the minority make up the majority of the whinging). Kiwi's generally know how to have a laugh
p.s. I'm Aussie

Re: Middle Zealand
Ah yes, I'd forgotten that The Lego Movie was a documentary and not a comedy film for kids. Seems like a whole load of fuss over nothing.
