Hey all,
Join the Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!
This week’s set is 9470, Shelob Attacks.
This 2012 set included Frodo (with both normal and zombie faces), Sam, Gollum, and a giant brick-built Shelob to haunt your nightmares.

My least favorite of the initial LotR set. I think its because I'm really sick of giant spider sets and I'm really sick of those teeth pieces used on the tips of the legs. Though this is one of the best spider designs we've seen. I've got in hanging in my Lego room and my kids love to peek at it. They're both afraid to get too close to it...
I'd like another Sam figure, but don't want to purchase a 2nd one of these.

I may not own this set but I have looked at it in person and I think it is a really good set. It has good figs and the spider design is great. I originally planned to get it but that never happened.

I am personally not a great fan of spiders by myself, but it looks pretty well designed at least. I can see it has a certain appeal but I would love it if tolkien had made the spider a dragon
About the minifigs: the tendency to have the same characters over and over again is of course a bit annoying once you have a certain number of sets. On the other hand its good that central protagonists are not only available in the most expensive sets.

I really don't know about this one. It had good figures and Shelob looks pretty good, but there's something about it I don't really like. Her web-spinning feature often gets stuck/tangled, and that rock piece is kinda pathetic. However, it does work well, overall, as a scene from the film. Not brilliant for parts, though.

Re: CC Set Review: 9470 - Shelob Attacks
I actually think this is a pretty good set. I really like the parts on she lob, especially the hinges. I use those a ton (behind the scenes). The string is also really useful. Whenever I get one, I never put it on the build, because it is always a pain to take off. Shelob is also a decent looking spider, and very posable. What I don't like is the landscape thing they built to go with that. That is kinda lame. Especially the Gollum launcher. But other than that, I think this is a decent set, if you can find it on sale, I would say it is worth it.
