Location: Orion, the Golden City, Capital of the Legoland Empire, Centre of Dametreos

Much happened in the days following the defeat of BloodVaine, and the final crushing of his armies.

With an escort of Imperial Cavaliers, with Captain-General Quorandis at their head, Constantius, Head of the Imperial House of Legonis, entered the Golden City in triumph, at the head of the entire Allied army.

In the presence of the kings and captains of the allies, and of those nobles who had returned from exile, Constantius received back control of the city and the keys to the Golden Castle, which still stood in a near-complete state.

Then, with Bernard Quorandis, Victor de Graff, and Willem Blackcloak standing as witnesses, Constantius VII mounted the Imperial Throne, received the Sceptre of Dametreos, the Crown of Legoland, and the Orb of the Purple Crown. The three hundredth, fifteen Emperor of Classic Legoland had ascended to power, and been installed as the final authority in Dametreos.

His first act in power was to pardon the rebel Black Falcons under the Lone Falcon and Randolph. He condemned Falconis, and expressed Imperial disapproval at the occupation of the Royal Knight lands.

He confirmed Bjarn of the Forestmen, Radjar Kath of the Dark Forest, and Barbod of the Bull Knights as legitimate sovereigns of their respective nations. He appointed Caimlin interim governor of the Dragon Masters.

He recalled the scattered nobles, officials, and soldiers to Orion. He commissioned the commoners to rebuild the city. He bought food and goods to feed and cloth his people. He re-established the Imperial Council, and rebuilt the Cavalier hierarchy. He disbanded the Order of Knights Cross, for High Treachery to the Emperor.

He bade farewell to the Allied armies, and gave them assistance in their departure. He granted clemency to the common soldiers of the enemy had survived.

Finally, he welcomed his son home.

Peace had been restored in Orion.

Allied Army camp, Forestmen section

Bjarn leaned back with a grunt as the tent around him was dissassembled pole by pole. Wincing through the pain in his ribs and shoulder, he swigged another mouthful of rye beer.

"You shouldn't drink that much, Bjarn" scolded Shainya, who was wrapping up linens, "Alchohol is bad for the body, sight and brain."

"Shainya, I've been strickly anti-booze for thrity years...I am way overdue on alcholhol intake. Besides, it's the only thing that will dull this tyco pain."

Bjarn grimaced and then ducked as the canvas tent suddenly fluttered down on top of the two of them.

"Megabloks!" Bjarn swoke, clawing his way through the cloth, "KEEP your end up out there!" he shouted.

"Brix and blox, sorry about that, Bjarn, your Elkship. The wee lass wind wanted to play with the tent." came the muffled voice of Jack Craft.

"Steady there, the winds picking up again.." cautioned the voice of Reno, and Aros responded "Got it!"

The choking canvas was lifted and a soon removed. For the first time in a week Bjarn peered out at the glowing stones of the Yellow Castle. He had not been fit enough to attend the crowning of the Classic Emperor, Gonderin had gone as his represenative.

"Looks a little worse for wear..." he commented as Reno and Aros struggled to roll up the tent. Jack gave a pitying shake of his head a exclaimed, "Ah lads, leave it be, ol' Jack will handle the canvas for 'ee."

"How do you feel Bjarn?" asked Aros.

"Like megabloks. But I'll manage. Fetch me another bottle, will you?"

Shainya halted Aros with a glare and snatched the empty bottle Bjarn clutch away. "You've had quite enough, Bjarn. I'll have Jack fix you up some herbal tea."

Bjarn grimaced, but said nothing.

"Tea's for wimps and Eastern Knights Kingdomers!" laughed Green Fox, who had just approached. At the sight of Bjarn's injuries, however, he suddenly was humble and quiet.

"Ah...might sorry for ye, sir, Bjarn, sir..."

"I'm no short of pity, that is for certain." snapped Bjarn.

Green Fox looked on mournfully, clutching his hat, until he slipped off quietly. Bjarn broke the silence when Gonderin passed.

"Gonderin! A moment!"

"Lord Bjarn." the tall elf nodded his head with respect.

"How goes the dissasembling of camp?"

"Most wagons have been loaded, and the injured are alway on their way. They should reach Drullen Bell within three days, and then they will continue on to Fell Isle."

"Very good. Carry on."

Gonderin nodded and left. Bjarn eyed Reno and asked, "I suppose you and Aros will be coming along?"

Reno looked to Shainya with softened eyes, "I go where Shainya goes."

"Then that means I'm coming too, since I really have no where else to go." responded Aros.

"What about you Jack?"

"Jack wouldn't dream of leaving his friend and patient at this moment, your Elkship."

Bjarn smiled. Radjar Kath soon approached and bowed slightly. "Greetings Lord Bjarn of the Forestmen." he greeted formally.

Bjarn nodded, "And likewise greetings to you, King Kath of the Dark Forest. You are prepared to set out?"

"That the Dark Forest are. Also Lord Willem of the Wolfpack is ready as well."

"Then we will march soon." said Bjarn.

"Very well, Lord Bjarn."

Radjar bowed and left. Barbod was next to greet Bjarn.

"Bjarn, you look like shifty-brick!" said the Bull King, halfway smiling.

"Good ol' brutily honest Barbod. You fare well?"

"That tyco Cross Knight spear will leave a deep mark for many a year, but otherwise I am of good heath."

"Do the Bulls return to Bull Isle, or to confront the Black Falcons about your right to the land. Now that the Classic Emperor has degreed you a legitimate faction the Black Falcons cannot deny your demand."

Barbod's brow darkened slightly. "For the present, the Bulls will stay here, under the protection of the Classics with Berson and the other rebel Falcons. When the time is right, we will make our move. I trust Gerrik will be able to hold down the fort for a few more months."

"Then may Chodan bless you, my friend."

All formallity ceased. Barbod looked like he wanted to rush forward and embrace Bjarn, but he knew he would only cause more pain. Insted, he gave Bjarn the Sign of the Elk, his eyes glistening. Bjarn returned the salute, and then said, "A Bull is always charging."

Barbod nodded, and then left.

Sir Dractor was the last to approach Bjarn.

"Sir Dractor, first, let me thank you." stated Bjarn before the knight could say anything, "You have been a key part of Forestmen victory. I am thankfull you killed that Elk in the Varden Swamps that day."

Sir Drator bowed. "If it does not burden you, I wish to stay a bit longer. I will not rest until I know you are fully recovered."

A grin split Bjarn's features. "My ill luck seems to be drawing everyone to me. As you wish, Sir Dractor. But remember, you are free to go any time. And no Forestmen will ever hold you prisoner on our lands."

Gonderin reapproached. "Lord Bjarn, the Forestmen are ready to go."

"Very good, let us return home."

Voolmark came forward, and carefully tapping the Mana, he lifted Bjarn off his bed and placed him gently on another cot in a wagon. After a few minutes, the long line of Forestmen, Wolfpack and Dark Forest wagons headed north, to what remained of home.

“No, I do not like him. I do not like him at all.” The Marquis stated. “He has a cold and hungry look about him. He reminds me too much of you father Hindrich.” The Marquis paused. “Go to your apartments now. We will be leaving tomorrow.”
Grid: G-7
Location: Falconis City

The Marquis was sitting down at a long wooden table. It was stark and bare save for a long blue cloth that went down the center and two silver candlesticks positioned neatly on top. In front of him was a fine glass bowl of chopped fruit and some gruel, flavored with expensive cinnamon and sugar from the Falcon Islands – a rarity and certainly an expensive one.

It had been three days since he and the prince had left Limtol. During that time he had concerned himself with the impending harvest. All was well in most parts, but heavy rains had ruined some crops in the eastern sector of the kingdom. Fortunately, the grain produced in the lush field of Royal Knight land would even that out. Their surplus would no longer be going to Classic Legoland anyway.

And then of course there was the funeral. It had been held yesterday admits the mourning of the whole populace. Crocodile tears really, the nobility hated him him, the lower classes feared him, and many others could care less. Additionally, it was Falconis who had allied himself with Bloodvaine and led the country into war. To serve in the army was the highest duty of any man, but the high casualties had caused more then a few murmurings of discontent.

All’s well that ends well though, the Marquis thought. He was the ruler now, and this very day the prince would be crowned, officially securing his position as regent.

His thought were interrupted when a messenger rushed into the room. “My Lord!” he cried, “A large army led by Martin is advancing to the city!”

Durlass gagged on some of the food he was eating. “What? How can this be? Close the gates. Do not let his enter the city.”

“Yes, I will send the word immediately sire”

Durlass collapsed back into his chair. Now he had another problem to deal with – Martin.

Martin couldn’t help from grinning as he and his army reached the city. Eight hundred carefully picked men had been chosen. In the front was Martin and his staff, followed by 100 heavy knights. Behind that were 400 of the imperial guards, followed by 300 of the famous Black Falcon spearmen, decked out in parade order. In addition, there was a small band ready to play.

They entered the open city gates, courtesy of his the city guard who were loyal to him. Banners flying, the company marched down the main street as the astonished populace looked out windows and around corners to see what was happening. The band started playing and one person shouted out a loud “huzzah!” The effect was instantaneous. People began to cheer and wave, greeting the army. Martin smiled again and waved, throwing some money to the side of the street. So far his plan was working. People were so fickle he thought. At this rate he would be able to over through the Marquis tomorrow.

After the battle with the Cross Knights and Dragon Masters Fraun had rested and walked through the camp. Sometimes peeking in on Bjarn. Now it was time to leave and he was talking to Dordrot.

"So you plan on staying here with Barbod and the Bulls?" Asked Fraun. Hoping that Dordrot would come with him.

"Yes. I have to. And remeber. You said you would help me restore the Bull's kingdom." Said Dordrot.

"Yes I did. And the Bull's kingdom has been restored. There are many Bulls, and you are now with your kinsmen. But I have things to attend to in the forests of the Forestmen. The Forestmen kingdom must be restored. You know that." Fraun said in a quavering boice.

He had known Dordrot for so long. They had been through many things in the past. Now they were going to seperate.

"FORESTMEN MOVE OUT!"

"Well." Said Fraun. "I must go. We will meet again in the near future I'm sure."

"Yes....We will" Dordrot said. His voice breaking up with emotion.

With that they embraced eathother. Not wanting to depart.
Space rocks.

The Allies were moving out, Elwen was saying good-bye to Sir Dractor, and Bernard Quorandis was being promoted and demoted at the same time.

Emperor Constantius VII was more than pleased to promote Captain-General Quorandis to Commander-General, only two steps down from the Emperor himself in terms of Cavalier hierarchy, and higher than most men of his relatively youthful age could dream of attaining.

At the same time, Emperor Constantius was rebuilding the Cavalier ranks. A few Cavaliers had escaped the takeover of Orion, and a few more had been away on foreign missions. Constantius also built up their numbers by the recruitment of the few loyal Cross Knights into the Cavalier ranks, which was an ample reward for their loyalty. Finally, he was building up the Imperial forces by bringing back retired Cavaliers.

One of these retired men was Marshal-General Theodosius, the former high commander of all the Cavaliers, who, as a result of being a Marshal-general, definitely outranked Quorandis.

Quorandis couldn't have been more pleased. A great weight had been taken off his shoulders, and it also meant that he was free to return to Talistrand as commander of the Cavaliers there. Quorandis liked Orion enough, and would not have been averse to living there, but Talistrand was a nicer city, quieter, with less crime and noise. Most of all, it was where his parents had retired to.

It was, he thought, the perfect place to raise a family.

"Well," Anardan said, "Time to move out again. I'll get the rest of our company marshalled."

**He quaffs the rest of the broth in one gulp and tosses the mug into his pack. He heads to the section of camp where his company is camped, and finds them mostly ready.**

"The call went out, it's time to move! Let's go!"

J-10 Location: Trevelayn's Tent, Rebel Falcon Camp

IT had been a long time since Trevelayn had joined the army of the Bulls and left his king and country to learn more of the then defunct kingdom. In that long and harrowing time, he had made new friends, fought along side them, and stuck with them through good and bad. He was now Trevelayn Morches, Brigadier of the Dark Forest, Brigadier of the Rebel-Bull Army, and Mercenary of the Black Shields. He had come a long way from humble beginnings as a peasent boy in a Crusader hamlet.
In front of him, on his light and portable wooden desk, overlaid with rough canvas, were his belongings. His old saber, polished some months ago at Delvarden Gard, his Falcon uniform, and countless other attire and trinkets. He was packed up. He was ready to leave for the ancient fortress he had first seen at the peak of the Fell War, before he had met the ranger Fraun Jerlock and the Bull Dordrot, before he had encountered the murderous Sheath. Before he had seen glory.
King Radjar Kath, son of Fallmir, and Master of the Throne of Hemlock, pushed away the canvas flaps of Trevelayn's tent.
"Are you ready to go, Trevelayn?" he asked, looking firm.
Trevelayn looked back, somewhat mournfully.
"Your Majesty, in all my days with these Bulls, I have ne'er seen so much nobility and gallantry. These men... their struggle resembles our own. Yet their eyes have seen far more bloodshed than the people of the Dark Forest... and their backs have felt the blows of oppression more than we have e'er."
Radjar nodded.
"If your Majesty wills it, I wish to stay with these men."
A sad, yet defiant, look came upon Radjar's face, and his eyes gleamed with a light that Trevelayn knew not.
"Trevelayn... as of this day... I name you the Emisarry to Bull Isle from Hemlock."
Trevelayn began to bow solemnly, but Radjar stopped him, and gave him a firm embrace.
"Don't go get yourself killed," he quipped, and left.
"Alright Kif, let's show these freaks what a bloated, runaway military budget can do"

J-10 Location: On The Road... Again

RADJAR held the reigns to his horse, his long garnet hair whipping behind him as he rode to the head of the column. Dust kicked up from the long caravan as the bedraggled but victorious allied troops marched restlessly towards home. At the lead column, Bjarn, Gonderin, Galdwheel and several other Forestmen, as well as Vos and Craft, were in the hold of a large wagon, painted green and gilded with recently acquired Classic treasure. Rosa was riding a horse just ahead of it, and Reno drove it on, the petite and lovely Shainya plodded down next to him. Radjar shot a smile at the raffish young troubadour, and Reno winked back with his good eye.
Radjar steadily rode up next to Rosa, then deftly turned his head towards her with a cheery look.
"Well, my fair lessemoune," grinned, slipping the Classic word for lady off his tongue, "Are you ready to go back home?"
Rosa, uncharacteristically, blushed and chuckled slightly. "Well, it depends if their is a home still to go to."
"You could always come with me... we could watch the Druids replant the forest... see the emerald trees rise up again from the ashes, and gallop along the free and open plain... drink the diamond waters of the Hemlock River."
Rosa laughed. "You poetic pansy!" she cried, nudging him with her shoulder.
"Haha," laughed Radjar, nudging her back. "Or do you prefer to smell the acrid odor of the razed trees? And wallow in the mud of the riverbank?" he joshed.
The two laughed hysterically. Rosa had never had such a good time.
"Alright Kif, let's show these freaks what a bloated, runaway military budget can do"

The Lone Falcon, concealed behing a piller, eyed the procession keenly. A coin thrown from Martin rolled along the cobblestones until it collided with the Lone Falcon's foot. A second later a child snatched up the coin greedily and ran off ofr more. Like a shadow, the Lone Falcon slipped away into the darkness.

"This certainly complicates things...again." commented Vanderdious, wrinkling his brow.

"Indeed." sighed Mayriz, "What shall the resistance do now?"

"We will stay put and out of the way." affirmed the Lone Falcon, "If Martin kills off the Marquis, all the better. If he joins the Marquis, then we will have to strike hard and fast. The Classic Emperor may have declared the Black Falcons corrupt, it is not likely the Marquis and his followers will submit easily. All of Dametreos is in a weakened state and every faction is concerned about surviving the winter, which promises to be a harsh one. I do not think it is likely any faction will take up arms to squabble over territory and power rights."

"Then I suppose we will lay dormant 'til spring." sighed Gaffner.

"It is our only choice." said the Lone Falcon, "Bersun, his army and the Bulls are all staying at the Yellow Castle under the Classic Emperor's protection and Bersun has agreed to do nothing until spring. But in April, we will attack."

"Unless the Marquis and Martin kill each other off first." quipped Gaffner.

"If they do, then we will have no problem taking over their empty quarters." smirked the Lone Falcon.

Frederick was in the stables at the Hunter’s rest, packing up his saddlebags. While in town, he had bought some fresh clothes with the money he had stolen from Peter, and had withdrawn some more money at Fugger’s bank.

That was another thing the Falcons were famous for. Besides their large army, the banks that were operated throughout their domains – and even over the whole world, were known for their reliability. The gold deposits in the mountainous northern part of the kingdom were carefully regulated by the government so as not to let a drop in prices occur. As a member of the nobility, Frederick name was registered there and there was no trouble at all with his withdrawal of five hundred crowns. When he was back at home, he would repay the amount at the branch that was there.

Frederick had also obtained some other materials. While the Falcon isles were self-sustaining, manufactured goods were needed given in exchange for the foodstuffs the isles produced. Frederick had worked out most of the details and the shipment would depart as soon as the tribute was received, coming in the enormous convoy that traveled the distance annually.

The young noble rode his horse through the streets, made unusually quiet. Rounding a corner, he saw why. Crowded on the sides, peering out the windows, and most importantly, in the city center, was a massive throng of people, cheering wildly. Down the center of the road, in full parade was a large body of Falcon troops, fully decked out in parade attire, flags and plumes waving in the light wind. When the head of the column reached the city square, a man in front, boasting a blue edged cloak and an ornate breastplate dismounted his horse. He strode up to a stone platform – some five feet high, reserved only for senior officials during speeches and ceremonies.

Putting his hands up, the cheering stopped. The man opened his mouth and began to speak.

Jayko's time had come. It was now or never. If he was to snatch Elwen away from Quorandis' greedy and sinful hands, the time must be now. The Commander-General was busy with helping facillitate the Allies' departure, and with bringing the Cavaliers back up to fighting strength.

Soon the Allies would be gone, and who knew when there would be another such chance? Jayko was wary of Quorandis' skills and authority, and knew that the chances of getting Elwen away from him would be few and far between.

So Jayko steeled up his courage, and began planning. From a herbalist in the city, he obtained poppy syrup, and the very night that the Forestmen began their march away from the city, he slipped it into Elwen's evening drink. He said it was a special juice from Quorandis.

Elwen drank it all.

Soon she was in a stupor. Jayko threw her over his shoulder, and made his way to the stables, where a pair of fine stallions waited to carry him and Elwen out of Orion.

It wasn't even midnight when they passed out of Orion's west gate, headed towards the Neverwood, and freedom.

Randolph entered the gates of Orion. Two days earlier he had found his horse and for the rest of that time he had rested at the infirmary, helping as he could. Many of the Falcons had sworn allegiance to the Emperor, but a fair number effused to do so. They had been thrown in prison and Randolph could not say what happened to them from there.

Entering the City, he spotted a Legolander soldier standing guard by the gate. Stopping his horse, Randolph leaned over somewhat and spoke,
“Where is the allied army? Have they departed yet?”
The solider looked up at Randolph. “Yes, they left just yesterday. If you need lodging, many of the inns here are still closed. Much of the city had been looted or vandalized and it will be some time before things are set straight I’m afraid.”

Randolph nodded and continued down the street. All around him people were busy repairing and building houses. Not knowing where to go, Randolph continued down the street until he came to an intersection. The road that he met was obviously a major one with people bustling around and giving him little room to guide his horse. Looking to his right, he saw that it led right to the yellow castle itself. Seeing nowhere better to go, Randolph headed in that direction.

When he reached the outer curtain walls, he spotted a group of soldiers exiting one of the barracks that stood close by. Dismounting his horse, Randolph managed to limp over to them. His leg still hurt him badly.

The foremost of the soldiers stopped. Unlike the other two who had the club insignia on their tunics, his was blank. He was carrying a pack across his shoulders as were the other two with him. Setting it down, he spoke. “You must be one of those Falcons who helped us a few days ago. How can I help you?”
“My name is Randolph. I am seeking your commander, Quorandis.”
“Randolph? It is an honor to meet you.” The man stuck out his hand and shook Randolph’s. “There has been some talk about you. You were missed in the confusion that ensued during the battle I was told.” Motioning to the other two soldiers to continue their work, the man started walking with Frederick into the outer confines of the castle.

“We are leaving in the next day or so” the man explained. “Quorandis is anxious to get home. Right now I believe he is making final arrangements with the new emperor.”
Randolph was listening, but his thought were on the splendor and beauty of the combined fortress and palace. Even though many parts were damaged, it was a sight to behold nonetheless.

The soldier spoke again. “I’m afraid I haven’t introduced myself. My name is Bersun.” He stopped for a moment, as if in deep thought. “I did not come with the cavilers, but the allied army instead. I am a member of the – resistance, a fellow Black Falcon who despises the king.”
Randolph looked at the man in amazement. “There are others beside myself? I mean, I had always assumed that there were others who thought as I did, but never a fully organized resistance. Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Yes, there is. We need a runner of sorts. Winter is coming and sending messages by pigeons will simply not do. I need you to go to Falconis city.”
“I would be honored to help, yes, but I fear I would be recognized to easily. After all I am – was, a major general in the Falcon ranks, the chief commander of the cavalry division.”
Bersun smiled. “Ah, we run into those problems all the time good fellow! Many of the chief members of the resistance are well known figures. A change of clothing and in extreme cases a full disguise; in a large metropolis such as Falconis city it would be very unlikely if you were spotted. Now, why don’t you come with me and we will go over the details over some drink and food.”

The two men then continued their walk and entered the large yellow-bricked palace.

Bernard Quorandis might not have been the sole, highest commander of the Cavaliers anymore, but you would never have known from his workload.

The day after the Allies had left, he was up at four in the morning, at a meeting with the Cavalier officers and five, and then out to oversee the conversion of the Cross Knight barracks to Cavalier. The Cavaliers' own barracks had been too badly damaged to be worth repairing at that time. Winter was coming on fast, and it was more important that they had a roof over their heads than that the roof was the right one.

At nine-thirty, Quorandis went down to the main gates to see the Club Knights and Talistrani footmen off. Sir Victor de Graff was leading the soldiers from the colony-kingdom back home before the snows started falling. Quorandis and the Cavaliers would remain in Orion.

At eleven, Quorandis was making his way back to the Yellow Castle for his noon meal, which he hoped to take with Elwen. Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be found, and his time was limited, so he ate without her. Before returning to work that afternoon, however, he set one of his men to hunting her down to ask her to join him at supper.

The afternoon was no less busy than the morning, what with filling out Imperial paperwork on the Emperor's behalf. Paperwork for the re-establishment of Orion's guilds, enlistment in the city guard, damage claims from those who had suffered in the war (idiots! thought Quorandis, everyone suffered), and all sorts of other items that required handling.

At six he finally left his desk, worn out, and ready for supper. To his disappointment, Elwen was not in the dining room.

Was she mad at him? Had he done something wrong? Was this a way of telling him that he spent too much time away from her?

"Commander-general!" came a voice from behind him. It was the officer he had set to finding Elwen earlier.

"Yes?" he said, turning.

"Sir, I tried to find the Duchess dan Raleigh," reported the soldier, "to extend your invitation. But she was nowhere to be found. Her maids report that she hasn't been seen by them since last night, when she returned in the company of Baron Falconensis."

Quorandis was starting to get worried. Elwen was missing?

"I then took the liberty of checking with the night watch," said the officer. "They said that they had seen a woman of Lady Elwen's description unconscious on a horse leaving the city late last night. Her companion was dressed in a dark cloak, and was fairly unremarkable. They were riding horses stolen from the Imperial stables."

Quorandis' exhaustion fell from him completely.

"Has anyone seen Sir Jayko Falconensis today?" he asked.

"I have no idea, sir," replied the officer.

"Go find out," said Quorandis. "And report to me in the stateroom. I will be with the Emperor."

And without another word, Bernard Quorandis turned towards the stateroom, all traces of a long day's work completly erased.

Lord_Of_The_LEGO wrote:"The Neverwood rests on Dragon Master territory. I could burn it down in an instant."

"With what, a stick from this fire??" Gib snorted.

"Ah...tyco." Lord Void sat up. "Then I guess I'll be off tomorrow to Classic LEGOland. I won't bother to ask you if you are coming."

"Good, 'cause I'm not."
Gib turned over on the pebbly ground where he lay, trying to fall asleep. His mind was troubled with many things. Among them was Lord Void. "The man's a tyco paradox." Gib grumbled. On the one hand, Gib didn't trust him, but on the other, he seemed to be above treachery. Gib puzzled on this until he at last resolved that keeping a healthy distrust would be the wisest thing to do. At any rate, it was certainly easier then bringing himself to pardon the Dragon Master. Gib never had been too good at forgiving people.

Now the hermit's thoughts drifted to the neverwood. What a change had come over the forest that Gib had once called home. "Did I really walk through it in one day?" Gib wondered. Of course the forest wasn't really that large, but there were no straight roads in the neverwood and once a man entered it was hard work making any progress at all. At least that was the way it had been. Now it seemed that even Lord Void could hold his own against the forest.

Gib thought that he might have an answer for the strange behavior of the forest, but he didn't like it and if he was right... If he was right, then this was the calm before the storm. If he was right, then things were out of hand in the woods. If he was right, then the neverwood had a very dark future in hand.

There was a legend about the neverwood. Gib had heard it long ago when he was just a boy living in Glestol. And when he had gone by the name of Rigger Belphinigib. The legend said that there had once been a city where the neverwood was. A border city of the classic legolanders. According to the legend it had been leveled by an enemy of the king who was ruling at the time. There was more to the legend. Something about King Kriss and a temple, but that wasn't important to Gib. What was important was that the enemy, for whatever reason, laid a spell on the destroyed city, to make a terrible and dangerous forest grow up there. And because of that spell, the neverwood came into being.

It was true. The neverwood was born of evil. Gib, however, felt that in recent times it had improved and become far less dangerous. Well, at least for him. Now, however, he was afraid that the forest would return to the wild state he had first found it in. Or worse, to the state it had been in when the evil magic was fresh in the forest air.

And so, with these thoughts, Gib fell asleep. But if you had been in the neverwood that night, you likely would have thought Gib's worries, totally unjustified. And with a good reason too, for the neverwood, that night, seemed anything but evil and the air was more dead then anything else.

But Gib was right. The neverwood was in a calm before the storm and how long before it broke? Only heaven knew.

The next morning, Gib woke early and started back to the neverwood. Lord Void, he found, was still asleep, with one eye fast shut and the other wide open. Indeed, Gib wasn't sure at first if the man was awake or asleep. However, he finally decided to give the possibility of sleep the benefit of the doubt and leave Lord Void as he lay.

In no time he found himself once again at the outskirts of the neverwood. Looking up he noticed three or four dragons wheeling in the sky. Gib didn't know it, but they were scouts of the Dragon Master army. Jarvick and Caimlin were returning. Lord Void would soon be a lord again.
