Gryphon by Kevin Heckel

Post by Bruce N H »

Hi all,

I'm sure you know by now I'm a sucker for brick-built-beasts. Check out this gryphon by Kevin Heckel.

It's another of the great MOCs that have been submitted to the Colossal Castle Contest II. Keep 'em coming!

Wow, this griphon is truly a work of art. I have a griphon that i made just of bricks, but this one is great. Keep up the good work.

What an excellent head and beak!!! Exquisite 'outside-the-box' thinking.

And that tail. How, how, HOW did he make that tail?? :?:

One of the best brick-built beasties I have ever seen. Kevin managed to restrict the size, avoided excess bulk, sculpted elegant but solid limbs, all the while maintaining pleasing overall proportions. Just a great design.

This is a great Gryphon. I love the beak and talons. And that tail. How did he achieve that posability?

This is definintly one of the very best Brick Built Beasts I have ever ever seen.

P.S. xiblal the beak is a yellow scimitar that comes in the tygurah's roar set

Amazingly cool. :)

I think the tail is made from round bricks put on one of those flexible hollow tube affairs. An example of the piece I'm thinking of is the "guides" for the scorpian-rock crushing thing in the Indian (as in, from India) Palace of Orient Expedition.

I usually don't like beasts made out of bricks, but this is a masterpiece! This should win something, it looks great.

I love this thing. It's not often that I see something that I really love, but this did the trick.
The tail does look as if it's made from a minifig whip. If the position of the tail doesn't give it away, take a look at the end: it has the little round thing for a stud.
I may just have a use for all of those wedge shaped pieces that I got with my Prehistoric Creatures building set. Now if only I could figure out how exactly he did those wings.

Bruce, your a sucker for any well made Lego thing. :D

Very cool beast! I like it a lot. He did a great job in making it small. Very good, I will have to copy that.

Now, that thing is cool! It seems simpler than most MOCs of his type, which I like. Thanks for the heads up!
