City Gate

Postby architect » Mon Oct 06, 2003 10:55 pm

Hi everyone,

My first new castle moc in a long time is my City Gate.

Image

It features a stone base with two large doors. The doors can be secured by an iron chain. A stair in the stone base leads to the tudor second floor. The stair landing has a window to shoot at intruders.

The upper tudor level has a fireplace, two weapons racks, a bookshelf, a table, chairs, and even a wall mirror.

Image

I also made a haycart with the new huge wheels. The cardinal's guard (musketeer) collects a toll from the peasant to enter the city. A traveling priest walks out of the city. Two fully armored watchmen guard the gate.

The gate can be connected to Legoland castle walls and slightly modified ccc walls.

Please let me know what you think of my moc. I am also seriously considering making this moc into my second custom set.

Thanks,

Ben E.

Looks great!

I really like the simple, yet detailed design of it. I am also fond of the color scheme of the tudor section of the model. If this was made into a custom set, I would seriously consider purchasing it.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Charlie. I really like how the black, tan, brown, and green color scheme turned out. :D Thank you for your feedback.

Hey Ben,

Very nice. I like the deep-set gate. One suggestion, didn't real castles have holes above such inset gates so that defenders could drop things (boiling oil, rocks) on attackers who were trying to batter down the gates? Perhaps there should be a trap door in the guards' room for this purpose?

Hi Bruce,

I did think about your idea and decided against it. I wanted to make a late medieval building with musketeers and muskets. There is a slit window to shoot at intruders on the landing of the stairs. I also wanted a detailed interior, so I decided not to go the boiling oil route. Thank you for your input, I definitely considered that option.

Hey Ben!

That's really nice! The structure itself is well done, I like the detailed interior and that the building is "functional" with stairways and such. Also, besides it's a nice building, I like the scenery. There are plenty figures that/who (minifigs are human to me :-)) can interact with each other. Cool!

Bye

Hi Jojo,

Thanks for the review. I like the figs as well, I may post a better picture of them sometime. Functionality is always important to me.

That's very nice !
I like a lot the way you put the staircase.

Is it compatible with CCC standard wall ?

Hi David,

Yes it is compatible with the CCC wall. Those walls are the same height but thicker. Some modifications of CCC walls would be necessary, but they would be minor changes.
