Weekly Set Review: Twin Arm Launcher
Join the weekly Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!
This week’s set is 6039 Twin Arm Launcher.
Twin Arm Launcher, released in 1988, was the first catapult for the Lion Knights. This dual catapult comes with a soldier on horseback and a siege worker. Various accessories such as round shields, a barrel, and weapons are included.

This is one great set! Here are my favorite things:
~ A believably constructed catapult.
~ Dark gray helms.
~ Not only enough weapons for all the figs, but extra ones as well!
~ A horse and a really neat-looking barding.
~ Two round shields!
...in otherwords, pretty much the whole set.
10/10 very easily.

Sweet set! I've a vague memory of seeing this on the shelves as a kid. It's one of the classics. (How ever realistic or non-realistic the catapult is) It's great for parts and weapons, those round shields are hard to get but great to have.
But why does this regular peasnt soldier ride arround on a horse with the kings barding? ':D'
Joel.

I'm back, and so is Castle!
Round shields. Horse barding. Weapons. Helmets. 4 cart wheels. Two generic figures. And a reasonably priced set. I'd love to see something like this again.

The catapult doesn't make a lot of sense, but is nicely done. Barding in a small set is always good. I suspect the Trash Can Lid's (round shield) popularity is inversely proportional to its rarity (not that they make those old corrugated tin trash cans anymore, either). But all in all a nice little set - compare to the current 8777 Vladek Encounter with barded knight, foot knight, and catapult (and hey, 50 cents apart in price).
8/10

Well those round shileds are basiclly a part that used as a radar dish in Space set in colors like clear and clear red. In 1984 when TLC launched the Castle line they made this as a shiled in dark gray in most of those set that year 6010, 6021, 6022, 6030 and 6061 (6103 the Candian version as well). The only other sets afterward that included that set wwas 1680/1877 (from 1990) and this set 6039 from 1988.
Now for my review
Bought that set as a kid cause I wanted the barding, the berrel which was new of course, first set to include small cart wheels, was pretty disappointed back then and for a while regreted ever buying it. As a catapult it not as good as 6030. I'm not a big fan of the design but as a small set it's pretty ok.
Final score 8/10
http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/3876Those round shields, did they stop making them in the 90s or something?

I always liked the way this set looks, especially in combination with other sets from the 'same' time (more or less), like 6012, 6016, and 6022. It makes a nice part of a battle display.
