What was your first set?

Post by JoshWedin »

There have been a couple of threads lately where people talked about their first sets, so I thought we should have one dedicated to that. It seems to me that we did this before but I couldn't find it so here it goes.

What was your first set and when did you get it?

My first set was 442 Space Shuttle and I got it in 1979. I was five.

What fond memories does your first set bring back?

I built this set a lot. I got a lot of basic bricks soon after and all I built was red, white, blue, and yellow space ships using the parts from 442. For some reason, I really liked how 442 looked at step 7 in the instructions and would stop building at that point. No idea why. :) BTW, I still have the original instructions!

What was your first set and when did you get it?

My first set was 6766 Rapid Running Village
I got it when I was 6. I got it for Christmas of 1997. I then started on a long journey that has brought me here. :D

What fond memories does your first set bring back?

A LOT of fond memories come to me when I think of this set. My Dad helped me build it, it took as long as the next day. I remember waking up on the day after Christmas and my Dad proudly showing me the finished village. I spent hours just playing with the guys, triggering the trap, and having battles. I loved that set. Whew, I think I'm goingto cry now.

My first set was 6245. It was given to me when I was three.

I still remember spending hours gliding the little boat across the floor and pretending the soldier was on a never-ending adventure. Whenever I see the little red boat piece that came from that set, I can't help but smile.

What was your first set and when did you get it?

My first set was 6766 mag Racer
This was the first set ever to enter our house. I got it Christmas Eve 1992. I was 3. I still have it all except for the antenna.

What fond memories does your first set bring back?

Well, I took it apart so many times that I had the set memorized by the time I was 4. I remember how his head was so worn out that it fell off all the time.

I remember playing with it and two sets of Mikes with Mike. It was a blast.

Do Duplos count? I know the first Lego product I would have had would have a Duplo set. The first real Lego set I had was a Basic building set, but I have no clue as to the set number (I was too young and don't have the package). The first set I remember getting was 6826 Crater Crawler. I was pretty young 4 or 5. The pieces got scattered and many were lost.

But in my mind my first "True" set was 6062 Battering Ram.

What was your first set and when did you get it?

I believe my first experience with Lego's was with buckets. I know this is probably blasphemy, but I do not remember exactly what my very first system set was. However, I can narrow it down to three sets which I received all around the same time. I do remember that I was five years old (1990) when I got the Pulsar Charger, Sabre Island, and Forestmen's Hideout. Later that year for my sixth birthday (still 1990) I also got the King's Mountain Fortress, but I know that wasn't my first set.

What fond memories does your first set bring back?

I really liked the Forestmen's Hideout and how it opened up. I believe of all of my early Lego sets, that one stayed together the longest and got the most play. I can still remember showing it to my mom when I finished it and feeling proud, like I had accomplished something great.

I don't know if they had set numbers then. The only colors were red and white. Minifigs didn't exist.

That sure is vague. 8)

What was your first set and when did you get it?
As far as I can remember, my first set was the Black Falcons' Fortress, which I got for my birthday (which is coming up again very shortly... January 26th) in 1989. My family had other LEGO previously, but this was the first set that was really mine.

What fond memories does your first set bring back?
I remember that my Fortress didn't have the string to raise and lower the drawbridge. My parents put it together for me, and for some reason they didn't find it was necessary to put it in.
Oddly enough, I remember using the 1*1 round bricks that came with the set are beer cans. Yeah... my Falcons sure did drink a lot... yep... I sure was five.
I hadn't had the set long before I decided to pick up the Fortress by the yellow archway, which gave way and the set crashed to the floor. I didn't have the instructions any more, so I spent years trying to rebuild it properly. I never managed to do it, and by the time instructions were available to me again, I had lost quite a few of the pieces. Thank god for the LEGO Legends, right? When I bought the rereleased BFF in 2003, I made sure to look at pictures from when I was a kid to make sure I put the figures together exactly as they had been put together 14 years before.

Well, as I started with Duplo, I can't really say what my first building set was. My first LEGO building set? That's a different matter! In 1981, for my 4th birthday, I received Universal Building Set (555) Soon thereafter I received my first castle 6075(375), and I have been a Lego Castle fan ever since!

Good thread 8) !

Later.

My first set was the 375 Yellow Castle. I am not sure where my folks bought it, but I have a really old picture of my from that Christmas in 1979 and you can see from the box that it was a 375 not a 375/6075. I'm not sure if the 375 was ever sold in Canada. We have family in Europe, so it possible my folks had it shipped over.

It was one of the only gifts I remember clearly, I was 5 and I learned that Santa wasn't real that Christmas Eve. I woke up to my aunt and my Mom frantically trying to get the castle together for Christmas morning. :D

I didn't mind losing the myth and I loved that castle like no other gift with the exception of perhaps Optimus Prime when I was a few years older.

After a long absence, I have returned. I can't wait to start building again.

I think I had several small sets, and then later on started getting bigger ones. I think I got the yellow castle in 1980 or so. Maybe late '79
however the first set I really remember getting and getting excited about was this one:
Image
I got this set for my birthday, and man is it the coolest ever.. I mean crater plates?
I used to use the knights from the yellow castle and this set to build space castles... :D

gee Lego is fun....

Well, my very first set had several years (10 or so) under its belt before I got it. The same Christmas (1992) that my above-mentioning brother got his Mag Racer, I was the happy recipient of my first (and only) Fabuland set: url=http://guide.lugnet.com/set/3654]Country Cottage. It was used, had some missing pieces (mainly in the accessories department), and is now closing on 23 years in total, but I was sure a happy kid then, and it was only two more months (until my birthday), when I got my next set, and the ball started rolling for the constant accumulation of LEGO that has gone on ever since.

I don't actually remember my first set. I remember my mother being frightened when we were at McDonalds, and I was building happily with my little set in my Happy Meal. She isn't mechanically inclined, and was afraid I'd ask for help. :D

I remember various small sets, seeing as that's what Payless carried and that's where I spent my allowance. I was exstatic when I got my Dragon Wagon. I loved that thing. But my pride and joy was This. I thought it was the best set in the whole world--and my biggest. Of course, I find tha that it was actually only a $36 set, but I thought it was one of the $90 sets. We had little money then, so that set was a huge deal. My parents were glad that I was thrilled.
