Blueprint to Castle [Yet Unnamed]

Postby SavaTheAggie » Fri Feb 11, 2005 10:20 pm

I've been showing my castle's blueprint to so many people private, I might as well make it public.

So, if you want to see the blueprint, follow the link below:

http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=AggieSava

Wait, isn't the link to my bricklink shop?

Yeah it is.

Desperate? Yeah. Underhanded? Perhaps, but I really want to reach my sales goal and earn enough to build this castle. I'm not forcing you to buy anything to see the blueprint, but I do ask that you take the time to at least browse my store a bit and see if there's anything you like there.

I also ask that you do not re-post the link to or the picture of the blueprint anywhere else. I did it all this way for a reason.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the showing, Sava; that looks like quite a project!

I did browse your store, but you really don't have much that appeals to a castle-head. I would like to buy from your store but I'll (obviously) only buy what I would like, and that is pretty much just castle stuff; new grey bricks, helmets, etc.

Well, thanks anyway and I wish you the best of luck in meeting your goal!

Your blue-print looked huge!
It should turn out to be a nice concentric castle.
Is it based on an actual castle or one you made up?

Ahh...

Looks alot like Beaumaris! I commend your ambition! This should be a fantastic project. Just remember, don't get discouraged. A project this large will have its share of difficulties.

Good Luck :D !

Anthony, will the castle be connected to Ikros?

Thanks! I'm sorry you didn't find anything that interested you at my shop. I've added some more parts since I posted this thread, but the only thing really 'castley' would be the basic grey bricks I added, and they're old grey.

I really appreciate you taking the time, though.

I hope so. It is based off Beaumaris Castle in Wales, as Blueandwhite pointed out later in this thread. There are several marked differences, but I think the inspiration is obvious when comparing the two.

Me too, believe it or not. Every time I look at it I think 'How can I possibly build that?' But then when I sit down to re-calculate just how many bricks I'll need I think 'I may just be able to pull this off!'

Every contribution helps enormously! The parts I need are not expensive, I just need a lot of them. A simple $5 order can get me alot of what I need. And with the order's I've already recieved, I honestly only need just a few more orders and I can really start making serious progress towards my goal.

Hope you enjoy your order! Can't wait to see what you build with it.

Thanks! If I had my collection I could probably put my current bley supply in my shop, but if wishes were horses... I'm sorry you didn't find anything more of value in my shop, though as I already said above, I have added more to my shop. Nothing bley, but maybe something of value.

Thanks for looking though, I really appreciate you taking the time.

I'm glad to know someone else can see the resemblance :) I'm glad you like it so far! Difficulties have already been many, but I've been able to solve most of them that I've come across in the design phase. The biggest hurdle I had was getting the spiral stairs to work, and while I'm not totally finished with them, I've finally got something that works (on paper).

Thanks!

:D You know me, I can't seem to build small ;) It's ok, you don't need paypal, you can use postal money order, it's easy breezy! ;)

I've said yes and no to that question in my mind several times. I think that if it is, the only room I have for it in Chaos Skies is at the end. Otherwise I'd have to put it in a whole new story, and I've already decided that I won't be creating Ikros 3 for a long time, if ever.

Thanks for looking!

2/3rds away from my goal - a few more orders from my shop and I can start making my own.

Speaking about the spiral stairs... I think there's too many in the keep. It looks kinda weird with a staircase in every tower. Couldn't you make one main staircase and then two or three secondary?
Just my (very) humble opinion. :D

My castle, as already been pointed it, is heavily based on Beaumaris Castle in Wales. As such, I've done my best to follow the castle's blueprint, while changing it to suit my needs and available inventory.

Blueprint of the real Beaumaris Castle

You'll notice that the real Beaumaris also has spiral staircases in every tower. The reason is that in a time of battle, you want every soldier in your castle to have access to as much of the castle as quickly as possible. If an errant trebuchet-flung boulder smashed your one main staircase, not only would your soldiers on the ground not have the ability to get to the upper floor, your other soldiers already on the walls and towers would have a hard time getting down!

On top of everything else, this castle is big. It would take a long... LONG time for a soldier to have to go from point A to point B if the staircase was on the otherside of the castle.

To give you an idea on how big the real Beaumaris is, take a look at a few of these pictures:

Aerial view of Beaumaris
Outside the castle where the moat would have been (notice the park bench)
Between the inner and outer walls (called the outer ward)
The inner side of the inner wall (notice the park benches)
Backside of the Northern Gatehouse
