Castle Magnus under siege!
Castle Magnus under siege!
Hi,
It's been a while since I posted pic of my Norman Keep. If you haven't seen it, here it is again:
http://www.scrope.com/PhotoGalleries/WA ... 43_jpg.htm
http://www.scrope.com/PhotoGalleries/WA ... 44_jpg.htm
Since then, I've been keeping busy working on a curtain wall for the keep. My ultimate aim is to have completely concentric castle (two sets of walls, one inside the other). While I am now beginning work on the massive inner ward, which will be about 2 and a half by 3 baseplates, the outer wall has been finished enough for me to say that I have a finished castle:
http://www.scrope.com/PhotoGalleries/WA ... 45_jpg.htm
Thanks to Abe Friedman for taking pictures at a recent WAMALUG meeting. In this dramatic set of shots, my castle, came under vicious assault by aaron Sneary's timewarping Tusken Raiders and Nate Jacobs's "green-troops-he-borrowed-from-me".
I have added an extra floor to one of the towers on the keep since I first showed it. In these pics, the keep is incorporated into the wall, but it can also be a free standing tower inside the walls. I prefer a slightly larger scale of building than the CCC, but the keep can easily be modified to fit with the CCC standard.
Here are some more views, from the side:

A closeup of the gatehouse, being attacked by some of Aaron Sneary's evil time warping Tusken Raiders! I've quite pleased with my corner arrow slits:

A view from the keep into the bailey:
http://www.scrope.com/PhotoGalleries/WA ... 52_jpg.htm
Another view of the siege, from the inside. I'm quite happy with how I was able to incorporate some non 45 degree angles in the walls:
http://www.scrope.com/PhotoGalleries/WA ... 51_jpg.htm
The enemy siege tower inches closer to the walls as the defenders prepare to engage in hand to hand combat!
http://www.scrope.com/PhotoGalleries/WA ... 42_jpg.htm
Arrggh!!! The enemy tower has managed to reach the walls!!!! Notice the counter-siege tower on the inside, a sort of movable defensive tower of my own design. I've never seen pic of this sort of hting before, but I know that counter-siege towers were used in ancient times. there is no reason why they might not have been used in the Medieval period also.
http://www.scrope.com/PhotoGalleries/WA ... 47_jpg.htm
Unfortunately Abe was not around to chronicle the end of the battle. I seem to remember that, the defenders "won", but as in the case with many silly lego based wargames, they only had about one man left standing.
I'll take some better pics of the castle as a whole when it is done.
enjoy and PLMKWYT!

Magnus - speaking of your Walled Keep, which is very
cool in person and my personal inspiration...
I have constructed a gatehouse, corner, and two walls
based on our ideas last meeting. I really can't wait for
you to see them.
Now I need to order more light gray bricks...Alot more.
Talk to you soon.

Yep, they do. The back looks alot like the front. Sady, the torso is too modern for castle.groovyd2001 wrote:Really cool castle but the tusken raiders in one of the pics i seen them with a detail on the back do they really have details on the backs?????????![]()

The torsos can be used in some castle settings, I have a few mercenaries that utilize this torso. I turn the torso backwards as the back looks a little less modern. Here is a link to the pic:http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/wlist ... aries1.jpgHow you accessorize the fig really determines if it looks like a castle fig.

BTW Very Nice Keep Magnus.

BFF flags and stuff
Thanks for hte kind words, I printed out the large BFF flags on someone's site, I wish I remember who it was. He had a whole bunch of flag prints , very nice stuff.
The large black roofed building is n fact a great hall/kitchen. (The keep serves more as a lord's residence. There were a few interior pics of the hall I think but they weren't very good. I haven't made interior stuff yet for the keep, once i do there will be more interior pics.
At this point I am building the inner ward, which will have its own great hall, so I may end up either dismantling the great hall in the outer ward, or convert it into a stable. I'm hoping to keep the keep though, probably as part of the outer wall, or maybe as a completely seperate CCC compatible building.

Those flags look like they came from Kevin Hall's Andravista site. http://www.ozbricks.com/andrastavia/02title.htmlHe has some really great custom torsos and flags in his village section under customs. He used to be really active in the castle community. I wonder what happened to him. Does anyone know?

I used to talk to Kevin a lot back in the day, which is one of the reasons he did a chapter of my story (he was also a good friend). But he dropped off the face of the earth for a while, and only recently have I talked with him again, though granted for the recent past I've stopped using ICQ (at least until a while ago), which is the program he uses.wlister wrote:Those flags look like they came from Kevin Hall's Andravista site. http://www.ozbricks.com/andrastavia/02title.htmlHe has some really great custom torsos and flags in his village section under customs. His reasons for not being active are many. One of which is because he's been moving a lot. If I remember correctly he made the move from Australia to Great Britain and if all went well since the last we spoke, he should be in Canada now.
His reasons for not updating Andrastavia are also personal for him, so I won't be saying what those are. Let's just say I would not expect any new updates to that website for a long time.
Hopefully he'll get back to building and being active in the community soon. He's a great artist, builder and a great friend.
