Okay, here's the deal. I want to, at some point in the future, start to make some good MOC's . Ever since I got back from my Dark Age this has been one of my dreams. But now I have to make a choice...Which grey to use? The classical, usual, but-disappearing old gey, or the grwoing, but hated bley? I would appreciate some help on this matter...
Well, Sir Kohran, you might opt to use a combination of the two. I personally think that the new dark grey looks splendid with the old light grey, provided that the old dark does not slip in there in many places. The opposite does not work that well, however. The two light greys are able to not clash too much when combined, which is not true of the dark greys.

Yea, I think it's possibe to mix them a little for a nice castle effect. Think about the plates for the King's castle... remember how some of them had the print of a few darker colored grey bricks? You could do that with your bricks/castle wall.

I have come to the same dillema now, and I think Snap Dracone is pretty much right. I've conducted some experiments, and this is what I got:
1. old l. grey + old dk. grey: excellent combination! (One that I use a lot for walls and rocks.)
2. old l. grey + new dk. grey: looks decent
3. old l. grey + new l. grey: awful!!
4. old dk. grey + new dk. grey: disgusting!!
5. old dk. grey + new l. grey: looks worse than #2 (there's to much contrast)
6. new l. grey + new dk. grey: *PUKES* ...well, at least they both have this blue-ish factor, so I guess they mix together well, at one level...
I hope this will be useful for somebody. I personally hate the new dk. grey probably more than the new l. grey (on its own), but still: if I'm going to buy some new grey pieces, I'm probably going for the dark ones, since at least they mix somewhat acceptably with the old ones.

I am afraid to say it, but yes, that is correct.
The change happened in 2004. I personally found about it in 2008 (after I hadn't been buying new sets for over 5 years). Even worse than changing the grey colours, they changed brown into the super-ugly red**** br***! I believe all of the piece colours have been changed, but grey (both light and dark) and brown are the ones where the changes are most visible.

No, they only changed the grays and brown
gotta wonder if the new blue-grey will go yellow like the old grey.
I read somewhere that someone has kept a new gray piece at his window since the color change in 2004, and that it still looks new, so if that is true there is at least one good thing about the color change.

I read that there are two different tan colors is that lego once had a smaller factory that made bricks in an off color, resulting in a variation of color. In my opinion having the different colors is a good thing, More variation is good for us castlers, while people who build other themes this might affect more.
