I was wondering if there were many castle creations built virtually with LDRAW?
Yes, there are a few virtual castle creations. You can check out my brickshelf folder:

I have several large scale castle moc's and instructions rendered with pov-ray (some using LPub). My largest virtual creation is my Gate Tower. I do not have the bricks to build it so I made a virtual version.

Wow Ben,

How did I miss this? I am assuming you posted this on Lugnet before the days of Classic-Castle. I used to lurk fairly regularly and post occasionally there and I don't remember seeing this. Great looking gate, very authentic looking. It looks very defensible, I like all the added details in the towers as well.

Any chance you have a parts list for this monster? I have been toying with the idea of a brick-built gate and I would love to try building yours before I move on to building with wall panels. I think I may have enough brick to try it out and it is always fun tyring to build to someones else's specs.

Hi Will.

I did make both of these creations quite a while ago. Here are the lugnet threads:

Tudor Gatehouse - Fall 2002
http://news.lugnet.com/castle/?n=14177

Tower Gatehouse - Summer 2002
http://news.lugnet.com/castle/?n=16776

In both of these attempts I was trying to build realistic moc's in the larger "Siskindian" scale as opposed to the smaller "Furmanesque" scale

Originally I planned to make these sets into kits but I realized that they were too large and so I put the instructions on brickshelf for everyone.

I hope that you do make it. Someone else took my idea and modified a tower but noone has built it completely or with the gate.

I really love that Gate Tower, I used the general design, but didn't have enough bricks at the time to build the whole thing, let alone the rest of the Castle that would have to be huge to match the scale of the gate tower :)

The interior design is really great, it gave me quite a few ideas.

Hi Charlie,

Your variation on my tower looks great. It is nice to see it built. :D I also like some of the interior changes such as the table. Thanks for posting.

Wow. Are you one of those people who've been trying to corner the market on 2x2 grey bricks??

Good job.

Haha, not anymore, I was a few months back though, I had over 3,000 when I stopped counting. I sold them all off though, and I really wish I wouldn't have.

They are so much harder to find now (I wonder why ;) ) and I can't seem to find them under 5 cents anymore, I got most of mine at 4 cents, and others around 4.5 cents. A cent or two may not seem like a big deal, but when you are buying thousands it adds up.

Architect,

Did you have anything to inspire you while making this? There are so many really neat things on it, it must have taken quite awhile just to think up the design, let alone build it on Ldraw. This is probably one of my favorite smaller-type (By small I mean not a large castle or keep) MOCs around, it shows so much detail. BTW, do you have any plans to release that "City Gate" as a custom set?

Hi Charlie,

I have some books on castles that I refer to occasionally. With this moc I had a general idea and I built it on the computer layer by layer making adjustments when I had new ideas. Usually I sketch elevations and plans for moc's but not always.

I am still debating on making the "City Gate" into a custom kit or not. Right now I dont have the resources or time to gather the pieces and make the kits. It is a ton of work. I am working on instructions and I might sell a cd with the city gate instructions and woodcutters cabin instructions. If I did this, the cd wouldnt be too expensive. School is busy and that puts a halt on custom set plans. I will ship this to Lenny so everyone can see the city gate at brickshelf.
