Your Favorite castle!

My favorite castle right now is Castle Campbell in Scotland. I love the shape and proportions of it and that it has a small courtyard. It also had a formal garden on one side of it. It kind of looks like my castle

My favourite castle is:

Castle Carondelet which lies in the village of Crupet, north of the city of Dinant in Belgium.

I have a lot of favorite castles. I can't really think of all my favorites though. I like castle from all over the Europe and surrounding courntries. Other then that, I do really enjoy hearing stories about King Ludwig of Germany and his spectacular castles.

Building off of TheOrk's post... one of the more interesting castles for me is Cachtice Castle, which is quite close to Vlad's Castle.

The woman who lived in this castle is sometimes called "Countess Dracula", and for good reason... she was a very sick woman. Several sources I've run into state that she was just as much an influence on Bram Stoker's works as was the "Impaler".

I found some online references for you all... and there are several books about this woman as well...

Thanks for the post ottoatm, it is pretty interesting stuff. I think I saw a show about "the impaler". I think I have been listening to the flute playing from the Dracula's castle website for about 25 minutes lol.

If you read about the castle on the Drac website you'll find it's not the real one. It's Bran Castle.

Its not too far away, and the remains are impressive!

Was founded by the norwegian king to hold off the swedes (1308). Swedish territory now, thanks to that the norwegians gave the land to us, how nice!

My favorite has to be the Chateaux d'Cureton, because it was built by my ancestors, who were important English noblemen, in 1099. My ancestors fought beside William the Conquer and sent men-at-arms to aid King Henry V during the Hundred Years War. The Chateaux d'Cureton never fell in the Hundred Years War, but was handed over to the French when the English lost the war. The castle currently is a winery.

My favourites, in no particular order are
Bodium (seems a romantic type of castle, and I like the symmetery),
Warwick (great castle, in excellent condition and I just love Caesers tower, (the tall one next to the river - such a cool shape))
Conwy (a formidible castle in a great medieval town and imo the epitome of castle design).
These are all castles that I've visited, but if I went to some more maybe they'd be on the list too.

Hi Folks!

I'd like to show you Schloss Bürresheim in Rhineland-Palatine (Germany), near Rhine and Moselle and deep in the hills of the Eiffel. (to Koblenz ~100 km, Maria-Laach ~20 km)

This castle was started in 1157 and it was never destroy. The interior is 100% original and the last owners left the castle 1948. This alone makes it a very unique castle.

But! You can see ruins aswell. The castle was owned by to parties (Trier+Cologne) and the Cologne guys just didn't invest a single coin. The Trier people didn't invest, because the Colognians were the enemy. So colognes part collapsed.

I visited the castle last saturday and I enjoyed the trip very much. You knwo it does not allways have to be Burg Eltz. Bürresheim is smaller, but it is not that crowded and you can easily spend a couple of hours there.
