New Castle

Post by Mr. D »

Here's a nice castle creation I found on Brickshelf: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=69249.
I think it's pretty neat.

So, how do you define "big"?

I like this castle too. The walls are big, but not complicated. Now if the creator could just leard to post smaller pictures!!

Ok, so I changed "Small" to "New". I think it could be more detailed, but it's still well done. It would also be nice if some interior pics were posted. And yes, those photos should definitely be downsized. :)

Don't get me wrong, its a nice casltle but there is room for improvement. One thing is those CWP. I hate those (except for shops). If you insist on using CWPs then you have to fill in the cracks with gray/lightgray bricks. The black bricks look out of place.

Nice MOC, 7/10

Uh...what are CWP? By the way, I'm not the one that made this castle; your post seemed to intimate that I made it. Not that I'm upset about it.

Yes, I am aware of that. I guess I should have proofread the post. When I said "if you insist" I was reffering to everyone who uses CWP.

And By CWP I mean Castle Wall Piece. I'm not sure if it is an accepted accronym of AFOL but heck it saves time!

Saaay...that is a pretty nice castle. Not detailed enough? Maybe, but sometime you have to sacrifice detail for size. I guess it just depends on what you're going for in an MOC. I find that sometimes when you build something really huge the details can get a bit lost in it. They are in there, lots of them probably too, but when you go big on a creation you have to go big on details so they can be seen. Often times, a camera will not register the things that you'd see if you were looking at it IRL.:D

By the way DM, I tried to save time by typing CWP instead of castle wall pieces and you're right, it saved me about three one hundreths of a second.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

That castle looks great! I like the overall layout of it. And whoever that person is, he/she has a lot of plate armour pieces! If only I had just a few of those...

I am not a castle builder myself, (only have about 5 grey bricks.) but I am planning on spending around $35 on light grey 2x4s. Is that enough to build say, a tower or keep?

SirCumference,

You don't need a ton of bricks to build a keep or tower. These were my first Castle creations after my dark ages:
http://www.ozbricks.com/bricktales/cast ... laces.html
and while the white one is admittedly very lame, I was quite happy with the shape of the red tower. I was just counting and it looks like that is 16 bricks tall, and you can make a square tower like that with about 10 2x4 bricks per level. LEGO S@H sells packs of 50 2x4 bricks for $6.99, so if this were all 2x4's it would have cost around $21.00 (add in some 2x2's and some inverse slopes and you've got the whole thing) (this was basically all of my red at that time).
