Interesting Pieces
Interesting Pieces
Does anyone else think that the 1x1x2/3 slopes are cool new pieces?

I have used them in several applications:
Here they make great mini-slopes, especially for the corners.
Here they make great archer loops.
And here you can make different stained glass patterns.
What do yall think?

I love those pieces, too. Unfortunately, I do not own any. But I was wondering what you used for the slopes in your rook, and now I know!

Re: Interesting Pieces
I think they are cool pieces too, but I haven't done anything with them yet. Very nice display of possible uses there. I haven't gotten enough to really do anything but I am sure that will change over time. Very creative, I like your work.

I haven't done anything with them yet. I don't have but a couple of them, and haven't been doing any real building since I got them.

Re: Interesting Pieces
Those are really cool examples, Jim! I can't wait to get my hands on some.
One question: Is is just my moniter, but don't those slopes look Old Dark Gray? If they are, where'd you get them? Peeron only lists them in the "new" grays. Or they just new (bluish) dark gray and I really need to fix my moniter?

Interesting uses! The only use Ive seen before was having them be R2-D2's third wheel(a funny note- someone tried to copyright this use!). Nice to see them used elsewere.
Thanks for examples, now I'll just have to get some...

Hey Jim,
Awesome build details. I especially like the archer loop. I was also glad to see you rework your rook into a full microscale castle.

Hello!
Yeah, those pieces are cool and long waited for. How often have we been sitting at a MOC and wondered why the heck don't 1×1 slopes exist!. You made good use of them.
Unfortunatelly they won't ever be available in my most used colours, grey and brown. Sniff.
Bye

I don't understand? I haven't got these peices, but i thought that they didn't have any studs on them at all, so how come they can be used in the stained glass window? and on the rook, how come they can be used upside-down?

Yes, I really like those pieces. I don't own any, but when they first appeared in the LEGO catalog, I thought It's about time!. I mean, why did it take them this long to think of it? However, now that they are in existance, it seems that the LEGO designers are really gung-ho over them; take a look, almost every other set in the catalog contains at least one 1x1 slope.
I have often wished that there would be a 1x1 slope, so now that there is, I will be getting some soon (hopefully).

Hey,
Cyclonis, the rook's fairly straightforward--I'm pretty sure that the top layer of bricks is made up of four light gray bricks 1x1 with studs on all sides:
at the corners, alternating with four dark gray technick brick 1x1 with hole:
and the 1x1 slopes are connected SNOT wise to the studs sticking 90 degrees to the vertical. A very nice construction.
I suspect the slopes in the stained glass window are just wedged in their and held by friction (aside from the bottom two, which are held by studs). How sturdy is this, Jim?
were first introduced. It seemed like we saw an early pic of the Twin-Pod Cloud Car set in late 2001 and were pretty excited by the new part, then when new sets started rolling out in 2002 about every vehicle-type set had a pair of these, or their inverted brethren. In the couple of years since it seems like the other variants on these pieces have been all over.
I think it's understandable. They always say how hard it is to introduce new pieces (I know, go explain the Kaadu ), and to justify a new part, the designers probably come up with a number of applications across multiple themes to make the cost/benefit ratio come out more favorably.

That's happened in the past. Remember when the curved wedge bricks, e.g.:Mr. D. wrote:However, now that they are in existance, it seems that the LEGO designers are really gung-ho over them; take a look, almost every other set in the catalog contains at least one 1x1 slope.
