Cyclonis, the rook's fairly straightforward--I'm pretty sure that the top layer of bricks is made up of four light gray bricks 1x1 with studs on all sides:
at the corners, alternating with four dark gray technick brick 1x1 with hole:
and the 1x1 slopes are connected SNOT wise to the studs sticking 90 degrees to the vertical. A very nice construction.
I suspect the slopes in the stained glass window are just wedged in their and held by friction (aside from the bottom two, which are held by studs). How sturdy is this, Jim?

That's happened in the past. Remember when the curved wedge bricks, e.g.:
were first introduced. It seemed like we saw an early pic of the Twin-Pod Cloud Car set in late 2001 and were pretty excited by the new part, then when new sets started rolling out in 2002 about every vehicle-type set had a pair of these, or their inverted brethren. In the couple of years since it seems like the other variants on these pieces have been all over.
I think it's understandable. They always say how hard it is to introduce new pieces (I know, go explain the Kaadu
), and to justify a new part, the designers probably come up with a number of applications across multiple themes to make the cost/benefit ratio come out more favorably.

Here they make great mini-slopes, especially for the corners.
Here they make great archer loops.
And here you can make different stained glass patterns.
But I was wondering what you used for the slopes in your rook, and now I know!
