Back from a Pyrates adventure

Post by garsh »

If anybody noticed I was missing, it was due to a Pyrates binge. Mega Bloks, of course.

I now own every Pyrates set available, and am in the middle of a medium-sized model of my own design. I'm ectstatic with all my new sets, asside from a few annoying draw-backs.

If any of you LEGO purists are curious about Pyrates (or Mega Bloks in general, really) I'd be happy to field your querries again.

Now that my Pyrates investments are behind me, I can also start buying used or unwanted Mega Bloks parts from you guys again soon. I'll update my Mega Bloks buying thread as soon as I've gained any significant disposable income.

By the way, I just opened a brand new forum for Mega Bloks enthusiasts. If that applies to any of you here, or even if you're just curious about the alternative brand and would like to chat with deserters, you're welcome to drop by.

Hey, welcome back! Even though I oppose Lego's competition, I still hope your binge went well for you. And, uh... when you finish your project, let us know!

Thanks guys!

Hello Graynar, I'm pleased to meet you!

By the way, I checked out your site. The models you built are really fun and in keeping with the official LEGO design styles. They remind of some of the best sets from the golden age of Castle. Great work! And I really love what you did to snaz up your photos.

And my Mega Bloks have been exceptionally kind to me, thanks. I'm consistently impressed with the quality of the parts and it just gets better with each generation of new releases. Even though things are getting more elaborate and lavish, the price is still about half (or less) of what I'm used to from the "competition," at least when talking about scale alone.

My binge has gone extremely well. Since most of the island parts went into my project, I'm actually considering buying a second copy of at least one set. My custom model is very close to finished, I'm only missing a few details. My camera is terrible at taking shots of small objects or anything up-close, so I might try to take one or two panoramics from a good distance, but it's a shame -- even though it looks great from afar, it's got quite a few nice little surprises up close. If that works out, I'll post a link to images.

Even though I only have about half of the Dragons sets available, my collection is magnificent and starting to dominate the living room. With Narnia to look forward to and the potential for more new Pyrates and Dragons and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I'd say yes, I'm treated well.

Are you sure you don't work for Megablocks or something? Sent to the CC forum to lead us all astray! 8)

Just kidding, I did check out your forum, pretty cool... I'd love to see some of your MOCs... I think.

I don't remember you either, lone ranger. I was gone for over a month, I guess. Generally I try to keep a low profile here anyway, so I don't spam up the boards for those that aren't open to clone brands. With Mega Bloks gaining so much market share I feel increasingly unwelcome here.

Graynar, of course I love LEGO, it dominated the better part of my childhood even as I was a hardcore Nintendo addict. Modern LEGO just doesn't offer me much I'm ever interested in. I pick up a small set every now and again, but I find that I lose interest in them. Mega Bloks is by far my favorite, ever since the Dragons revolution.

ottoatm, thanks very much for checking out the spanking new forum. It's sparse for now, but if Mega Bloks' shelf presence is any indication there should be plenty of clone enthusiasts out there to busy it up if I can just find them. You're welcome to post even as a LEGO purist or not.

I'd love to show you show you my MOCs! Typically I leave my models in their instructed configuration, (Dragons and TMNT at least) but asside from the Pyrates ships, I've been combining parts into at least one MOC so far. It's fairly modest, but it's easily the largest and most satisfying I've ever done. Like I said before, if I can take a decent photo or two, I'll show it off.

Is Pyrates a Megabloks pirate theme? I'm not too sure what it is.

I don't know too much about Megabloks themes, I have to admit though, the Dragon sets are cool. But I still won't buy them, unless they're for you.

Graynar

PS: sorry, I just have to outline Megabloks in bold. Hurts my fingers when I type it.

Becarefull Mr.Nick, those words might come back to haunt you.

I was just kidding about the hurt fingers thing, I'm just not the biggest fan of Megabloks but, I don't mind people like Garsh liking them.

I understood that you weren't serious.
You don't mind people liking them or using them, but some really don't like it! Look at this thread:

I hope your megablocks bender goes well Garsh!

My tolerance for MB isn't as bad these days. As I have noticed with the new project I'm working on, the new generation MB parts are almost as good as the TLG ones. If TLG doesn't get their act together, in four or five years I'll be buying myself some MB instead
