Davescastle2 renovations

Post by davescastle »

Hi all,

Just thought I would update on the latest pics I have uploaded. My digi camera had died in the rear end.

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=72538

I still havent come up with a Good name for this Castle, so Im open for suggestions, Im sure someone here might have a suggestion, were better to ask?

Just recently, I have changed the Keep. I added a tower at the left hand rear corner instead of what used to be an L-shaped keep is now a little smaller in width. Here is what I mean.............

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=618144 to

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=658310

Just wanted any suggestions as to whether the older or the newer keep fits better?

I also added a folder on Brickshelf....................

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=658301

Im sure this has been done a thousand times, but as a Kid I had always dreamed of building this Gate from Idea book 260. Just never had the parts.

Cheers,

Dave

I like the narrower tower better.

I'm not so sure if it was built that often. Because everybody didn't have the parts :-)
And I always like models done after building books.

And I have one sudjestion on what you should do with the castle...

Oh, great! I haven't seen this MOC before. Your houses make my hidout blush in shame. This is work worthy of Jojo. Honestly. I noticed that you used arches in a very creative fashion, like they are used in Falckenstien. Very, very good.

It looks like I will stick with the narrower tower. Cheers Jojo.........

Castle Annon sounds quite good actually. I remember somewhere that 'Annon' or 'Anon' means 'unknown' This is what I like about it. Then again 'Annon' is Nonna spelt backwards which is Grandma in Italian. A little useless info.

I will be sure to grab something in mind.

Excellent castle, Dave. The level of detail is simply outstanding. I like the interesting way you have used arches and columns in the walls. I also like the panels and roofs that open up to reveal the interiors. The village and landscape details are very well done.

What can I say? Great work!

Thank you Stephen...............

I wanted to try a little decoration on the outside walls and ended up getting a little carried away, which I feel turned out for the Better. I had tried to make all internals accessible, I succeeded in most except for the Dungeons in the lower floor of the Keep which can only be accessed after I pull all the above levels out. All good fun><>< Originally I wasnt going to create the village, but after starting it, I couldnt resist finishing it.

Thanks again Stephen, Keep on buiding..................

Great Castle!!! These are the types of castle MOCs I love looking at. Well done, well detailed, and to scale in size with minifigs... in other words large. Not like those fortified outhouses that Lego sells as "castle sets". :D

Where is the castle supposed to be located or what actual castle was it inspired by? Perhaps that could help you pick a name for it.

Wow, I thought the Castle was amazing before I saw internior shots. The level of detail is really great, every time I look at it I see something different.

I like it with the Tower better myself, not that the thing needed to by any taller ;)

I love how you use the 1x2 brick with the tripple slope on top of that, I have used that design in every one of my MOCs since I have seen this Castle I think.

The walls have so much texture with the all the arches and inverted slopes, it just gives it that much more depth.

There is so much more I could say, but I'll just stop here :)

Thanks for the compliments...........

I found my inspiration through many builders here at CC. The origin for this Castle had come from a Game that my nephew plays on his PSX2. It it called Prince of Persia. This had given me the idea of three seperate isles, which was a little different, except that in the game, there was no village.

Choosing a name for this Castle wasnt too important when I had built it, now I want to open a webpage on Mymocs.com and find a storyline. Once I get the name down, the rest should be a breeze.............

Cheers,

Dave

I know this post is a little late, but this looks great! I wasn't even a member when you posted the first version, which was nice, but this is even better. The village is great on the two islands. Nice looking interior parts, great landscape, wonderful pictures that capture so much of the dozens of neat little details that must be in this moc. I wish I could see it in person...

This castle is so awsome! I love the way you had the windows stick out. There are so many cool things about it; I just can't say them all in one post!

I fogot to reply when this was posted.

Dave, I really love this castle. I like how you made sections of it open up. A large castle is great to have, but what fun is it if you can't get inside. I must say your village mocs are eqaully nice. I would like if you posted individual pics of them. The large castle greatly dwarfs them, and it is a shame because they are nice.

Dave, great castle, great village, ok name

Wow! I finally had a chance to check this out in detail. Great work!!!!! Tons of great details, both in the castle and in the village. Great use of arches too. It's always nice to see a builder put details on a 'plain' grey wall :) Each village shop is great in its own right and really deserves its own Brickshelf folder so it can be fully appreciated!

Thanks for the compliments fellas. I couldnt agree more with you in regards to the Village. I believe I spent more time on the Village than what I did on the Castle. In there is a miller, a bakery, a mason, fishey and all sorts of other stores/shops. As was mentioned, I had no plans on building a village, it just kind of happened. I will have to get some shots on each store and upload them on BS.

Whereas access goes to the Keep and other sections of the Castle, most of it is easily accesible, apart from the bottom level of the Keep(the dungeons). I have built all of the roofs on tiles so as they can be taken off. Even the floors in between levels have been built on tiles so they too can be removed. Just found it a little difficult to get access to the dungeons as the bottom floor of the Keep was made more for support and kind of fitted in with the base work of the entire structure.

I am currently working on a new Castle which has more of the CC feel. Ill be sure to upload some pics when Im done.

regards,

Dave
