Most noticable thing is the roof. Really love how it was done, with just the right color scheme. Great work.

That roof is really well done, I can´t tell from the only pic yet how you did it...have to wait until it´s public...

Good job ;)

A very nice job on that, I've seen that type of roof done on an almost oriental style building, but I think it is superb as a viking house. Is there an interior to it? I just can't wait for it to go public....

Nice house, Nate! Glad to see my skateboard ramps are getting a lot of mileage ;)

However, one thing I have a problem with is that chimney...

Now first off, let me say that I am not an expert, nor do I pretend do be. My knowledge of ancient viking architecture (or medieval architecture for that matter) is very light.

But without an actual fire place, I don't think a stone flue would be used for a fire in the middle of the house. I would suspect that, like a lot of lower class medieval housing with fire pits in the center of the house, there would simply be a hole in the roof directly above the fire for the smoke to escape.

But that's just the feeling I get... I'm sure there are some experts here that will set me straight.

In any case, I really like the house, it has an awesome look to it.... and I'm going to have to steal that leather tanning idea...

Congrats on the anniversary!

That's a great longhouse, and I love the roof. Altogether, I like the entire scene going on around the house. Great job!

Hey, I really like the tanning scene, did you cut that fabric your self?

With that style house and with out a fireplace you would usually see more of a square/round opening in the roof that can be covered up.

I live really close to the Viking sites in Newfoundland and had a chance to visit them recently.

I think it looks good with the chimney. If you want to have a more authentic look with out a chimney, here's a shot I took.

Cheers.

Hey Nate. I love the hole scene around the house.
Maybe in the future the skateboarders will make it temple.

WOW  Nate, that's an excellent long house, it really gives the feeling of a long house.Add some foliage and a bit more detail and this'll be a winner for CCC3. Keep up the good work and I really hope to see more Viking stuff from you.

So there is a use for those ramps.

Very nice looking building, though I would have to agree with Sava that it might not be entirely accurate. Then again, the Vikings line isn't really either. . .

Quick, do more. :)

In the norse bronze age the sides of the roof was open, so that smoke from the fireplace placed in the middle would come out from both sides. Learned it from the days when we studied the stone to iron age in school.

Im not an expert on viking architecture, however. We had one week for viking s and a whole course about the middleages and reinassance, probably why Im so intrigued by the dark ages now- compensates for what I lost :)

Its been around a while, but I cant stop admire the smart use of skate ramps. Too bad skateboard sets arent around anymore... :?

Awesome house, Nate! Very well done. I was wondering when your roof design was going to pop up again. The viking scraping the hide is cool. Can't wait to see the interior...

That is a great-looking MOC there Nathan! That would be a cool addition to the Vikings line. All of the little details add so much to this creation. I looked closely at the pictures, and I think it was really neat how you connected the V-shaped decoration things onto the roof as seen in this picture. Also, I was wondering what the purpose of these technic pieces was. It looks interesting. Great job!

That's the knob you turn that transforms the house into an evil space MOC that seeks out and destroys castle MOCs.

(Hey, Nate used to be a space builder, can a leopard REALLY change his spots? ;) )
