My name is the Lorax, I speak for the trees!

Post by SavaTheAggie »

I'm no Lorax, but I speak for the trees!

After building my 88 Tree, I continued on my tree-building quest. The end result was not only a forest full of big trees, but nice small ones as well.

Image

That makes 8 large trunked trees and 6 small ones. The smallest of the bigger trees uses about 40 leaves, the largest (and tallest in pic) uses 115.

Christina is very happy with the small trees I was able to build, too.

Image

These trees end up being a little taller than the large spruce tree LEGO offers. Their construction is simple enough, 6 large leaves, 1 small leaf, 1 green 2x2 round plate, 2 1x1 round bricks - one green one brown, all jamed together on a brown minifig lance.

The pictures are numbered 01-06 for those who are impatient. Otherwise, enjoy the Post-Mod Leafy Goodness.

--Anthony

P.S. To answer a question I'm sure someone will ask - a little less than 600 large leaf pieces.

Awesome as always, Anthony! The new short trees look great. Always good to see new foliage.

I think I'm more impressed with these smaller trees than with the big ones... and they are perfect filler for a forest of the large trees, giving any future woodland images you take a more realistic look, with trees of various sizes in the background.

It looks great, espcecially next to that enormous castle you have there... very cool.

I was really hoping for a lorax creation, you know. That's my favorite Suess story. :(

Either way, I really like the trees. They're quite amazing. And now you and others will drive up the price of leafy-goodness on bricklink. Curse you, supply and demand! ;)

This one's for you, Darkie. I would have liked to use dark red 1x1 round plates, but I own none. It would have been better with the beard in tan or yellow, but again, I don't own one.

Decently close, though, I think. Probably not close enough to be identified at a show display, but that's ok.

Nice trees!

If you double or trippled your efforts, you would have a truly incredible forest! Still, I am impressed. You certainly have quite the supply of foliage! I don't think there is much to say, though I do have a suggestion;

How about varying the size of the tree trunks? The 2 x2 round bricks certainly are great for tree trunks (would you believe, I don't have a single one  ). Still, I think your forest might look even better with some different truncks. How about using the palm tree base, with 2-3 palm tree segments for your smaller trees? It would give you a second thickness to work with.

Again, great work. I suspect this tree-style may become something of a standard in the future (I've already built a few smaller ones for myself).

Later.

Mmm...leafy goodness...

These look good. I too, have gotten into making trees with the leaf parts, but I am quickly running out of them! I even made a birch/aspen tree (last spring). I really like the little trees, and might implement that in my castle some. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice!

The small ones are attainable for many of us and would look good with official LEGO trees (foliferous or spruce......and cypress)

Seeing these makes me understand why people want the plant parts in red and orange.....

Yes! I loved all of Suess' stories when I was you... Wait! I still love all of them! This one just happened to be my second favorite of all time (right behind the "Butter Battle Book". Geez, I would rent these books from school all of the time.

Hmm... maybe I should make some Butter Battle Book creations, or maybe someone else...(I don't have any idea where to start)

P.S. Great trees, Anthony!

These are really good trees, although I'm not sure what the Lorax thing is about.
