Weekly Set Review: Weetabix Castle

One of the few castle sets I do not own. And oh how I want it.

When one thinks about it, this is the best castle TLC ever produced. There is no gapping holes in the rear wall, nor is there a questionable looking group of knights to guard it. This castle's design is the most realistice out there. Pity it wasn't minifig scale.

I really like this set. The special pieces and the variety of design elements are a pleasure to view. I like the fact that each of the towers is different (with the exception of the gatehouse towers). This set demonstrates several key castle building construction techniques, and would provide a great learning experience for anyone.

I think I have to print the instructions and build it just for the experience (even though I don't have enough 1x2 windows, or blue corner slopes).

This is the direction I would love to see LEGO pursue. This castle could have been built with half the pieces if large molded ones were used, and so much building would have been lost.

It`s a cool and realistic set it has gate building, side towers and a Donjon, not like most of the normal lego castles,
The colour use isn`t that good, but like architiect wrote, that were the colours of that era. The Lego group should remake this set, but than better colours and in minifigure scale. That would be really cool!

I absolutely love this castle. Actually I saw a picture of this set when I was younger (probably around 1990) and thought it was the coolest thing. I was mostly into pirate stuff about then, but I do remember seeing it, not sure where though, no internet.

Anyways, I particularly like the larger yellow tower. This whole castle is almost exactly like a real one I saw in a book. In fact my young mind thought that it was supposed to be that castle (which it very well could be.) I agree the colors are a bit odd for what many of us think of as a castle, but as said before, think of Neushanstien (SP?). A set like this now, with more grey (old grey of course) and minifig scale would surely sell out. I know I would purchasee several on my very limited budget. I like using color in castles, and one more like this would be cool, but maybe a bit less.

So, there's my two bits worth. Overal a spectacular set for the first castle! We so owe this set this entire site! Think about that.

The pieces are rilly colorful! It's nice that it's not purple like the stupid Legos producers feature in KK1 and KK2. The playability looks very good. All it needs is some minifigs. A really classic castle army could flourish there and never look dumb.

This just goes to show that you don't need fancy sloped pieces to make a cool turret roof *cough* modern Lego designers *cough*.

Umm...there is no purple in KK1.

You know, I like the Weetabix castle too, for its nostalgia value. But if it were somehow released now, people would complain up and down about its "unrealistic" colors just like they do about KK2. So, it amuses me when people bash KK2 and rave about the colors of the Weetabix castle in the same post.

The simple, yet elegant beginnings of the castle era. The pre minifig era was great for generating fantastic complete building designs (4 walls, and even a roof where appropriate) that did not necessarily take up a lot of space.

I will definitely consider rescaling it on my own for minifigs; this is a very useful, simple, realistic design...

Whats wrong with purple? Its a very knightly color, many knights had it, and if used right, it can look magnificent, its just that the KK2 knights are not magnificent.

Back to topic:

I dont get why people give it max score, its not really that great. Sure, it got a great form and alot of bricks, but the colors are crazy and now when we got minifigs, its too small.

Back when this was the first, sure it was a big and cool set, but it doesnt look right.

But thats just me.

Yes I know. If you or anyone has the accurate flag and photographs it at an angle, I will photoshop it into the set image.

As a matter of fact I just found a pic of the W-castle in my own Images folder on 1000steine. It's not very edit-friendly, though...
