Hello! Histo-Sci coming to the forum!

Postby Histo-Sci » Mon Mar 06, 2006 5:06 pm

Hello,

I have been a fan of Legos all my life practically. When I was a kid I loved them, especially the medieval ones. Eventually, as most of you probably did, I "got out" of them. But, as you see, this did not last! I'm actually a new Lego collector, as I just started back up last summer. I have built with my Lego sets every once-in-a-while, but never since my "childhood" so-to-speak did I buy or want to but any more.

So, after I started seriously considering the hobby again, I finally broke and bought some Legos I saw on discount. (My return to the hobby was no doubt helped by those drool-inducing Vikings.) I mainly like to build temporary dioramas with my Legos and take pictures of the scenes (be it a fierce battle, a giant spider, or an attack by dinosaurs!).

I have many interests, too many, in fact, but, in a nutshell, they usually have something to do with science or history (hence my posting name). My favorite science is biology, especially dinosaur paleontology, and as to history my all-time favorite is the American Civil War. I really have way too many hobbies, and this excuse was one of the reasons that I thought over in my head about not collecting Legos (obviously, the reason was not convincing enough). I collect books, fossils, militaria, stamps, coins, and much more, and I also love painting plastic soldiers for dioramas. This hobby is also big, and many modelling manufacturers create tons of figure sets for this very reason, so that the painter does not have to settle for a bag of green, generic, grocery store "Army Men."

My favorite Lego are knights, as I love the history, and also what beats imagining little Lego warriors swinging mighty axes and swords against their evil Viking or barbarian foes? I loved the Adventurers when they came out, and the Yeti's Hideout is one of, if not THE, favorite set of mine, but the Viking Fortress that my Grandma bought me for Christmas (isn't she a nice Grandma? :D ) rivals it somewhat. To be honest, that dragon is mighty mean and nasty looking, but it's hard to beat the simplicity of the Yeti set, and I love it all the more because I am an avid believer in Yeti, Sasquatch, Nessie, and that kind of stuff (although the idea of aliens has no place in my brain!).

Anyway, I have probably ranted on enough here, so I'll close here.

Good day again milords!

Wow! I am really surprised by all the posts. I've been on a message board before, but never one with so many posts, at least not on my threads! And everyone's so nice!

I don't think I can answer every reply that I get, so I will try to just do the ones that are up now.

eNiGMa: I have to say I love writing to (if I ever get around to finishing anything...ha ha ha)! But, just let me ask, if I'm just a farmer and you are a landlord (It should be called serf and noble, I think!), I hope you won't be too taxing will you? And I promise only to kill a deer when I'm really, really hungry...LOL!

Moroder: That "landlubber" thing is so funny! I thought it was great when I was a lurker. And I also like your first interest on your profile, as you can no doubt tell by my signature.

ZIGGY!: Why thank you! I think I will like it here!

wunztwice: Hey, thanks for the kind words! You like WWII, eh? Well then, let us both demand for some Lego WWII soldiers, at least custom ones! Muhahahaha! Anyway, do you read any books on the war? Where do you get your best WWII stuff (I have a secret place that is right now selling old surplus...drool....)?

HenrytheV: Wow, how in the world do you know what a trilobite is? I actually have four (I know that is a small number!) but since I hope to actively collect instead of just buying some day (try digging for them critters when you're surrounded by endless pavement) I try to keep my invertebrate collection to a minimum. I have two Elrathia kingis and I have one Phacops (it strangely seems to have the tiniest little almost Hadrosaur-like skull on the side of it, but I'm sure it's just a fancy of mine), and I also bought one from the same "secret" (JK) place that I mentioned to wunztwice, and, as best as I can identify it using my limited resources and since the head is obscured by some matrix, I would guess that it belongs in the genus Flexycalymene. Anyway, this is getting off topic and I'm ranting anyway (told ya I loved science...hee hee hee), just let me say this: you are the one who finally drove me out of lurking! You know why? Because I saw your old post about G.A. Henty! I love Henty! I couldn't believe that a fellow Lego lover liked Henty! Which one's your favorite? I liked With Lee in Virginia too, but I still think I like In Freedom's Cause best! Now that's enough for now! But, just one last thing I have to ask you, do you have any ammonites?

JoshWedin: I like your picture, but I have to admit that I was fiddling with the very same two pieces as your horse helmet and horn, only my horn was white, and created the same thing. And then, guess what? I see your post like right after that! Just so you know I'm not copying you in the future. And, oh yeah, I think I had already decided to be part of the Battles contest. Where can I learn more about the rules, etc.?

Well, that is all for now, so thanks everybody! It's great having you guys post, and I look forward to your next replies!

Ahoy there again Histo-Sci,

Glad you liked the banner! oh, I noticed your sig, some of us have the same creed around here. And for a history lover, the Bible makes a great reading. Besides, don't you love the poetic aspect of it? Sure you do, as the sig shows. :D

Hey there Moroder,

Thanks again for your reply to my reply to your reply, er, you get the idea. You are quite right about the Bible, it's a great read! What better book to read than a truly-God inspired one? We have a wonderful lord in Christ Jesus, don't we? I do like the poetry as well (I'm reading Revelation right now; so interesting!)--especially when the subject the poet is writing about is true! (I.e., Behemoth=sauropod,, Leviathan=some sort of seagoing reptile, perhaps a plesiosaur or pliosaur, maybe even a mosasaur...and here I go with the science again!)

To everyone else besides Moroder: please ignore the fact that I began to rant again about science, it happens to me alot....

Well, I will end here now, and goodbye to all! Good luck on the Battles contest (I hope to enter myself too)!

Hey again! I wan't going to reply agian to this thread, but I think it's awsome you're a Christian (I am as too!). I've noticed alot of us here. That, in part, could have an influence on the 'niceness' of the site. This is the most polite and welcoming forum I have ever been a part of. So, welcome again. I see you are already making yourself comfortable and posting, that's great.

Not to annoy anyone, but can we keep the religion discussion at the minimum? I was looking at the replies and I read mostly about religion and Bible instead of greetings. If you want to discuss, fine, there's something called Private Messaging. Anyways, welcome again Histo-Sci. And ı would have said something to wunz about his "niceness" comment, but I don't want to start a fire here.

Hi all,

Just to echo Scnicker, please keep religious discussion out of posts. Here at CC we have members from various different religious backgrounds and those who are not religious, and we want to keep a friendly forum for all. Experience has taught us that sometimes religious discussions can degenerate into debates, which can become quite nasty.

Discussions of MOCs with religious themes (e.g. Athos' Bible vignettes, eNiGMa's Book of Mormon vignettes, the Brick Testament, various cathedrals, monasteries, monks, etc.) are all fine. Discussion in the medieval life forum about how religion fit into the society of those days is fine. Greetings and signoffs like "bless you" or "Merry Christmas" are fine. Inspirational statements and verses in sig lines are kind of a gray area. Beyond these, we'd like to avoid forays into doctrinal discussions etc. There are many many fine forums on the web for these sorts of things, but here on CC we try to stay on topic (note that we have no off-topic general chit-chat forum). Of course we stray, but that is the standard we like to adhere to.

Thanks for being understanding.

That said, welcome to CC, Histo-Sci. You'll find there are a lot of history buffs here.
