What my children built.

Post by Troy T. Moore »

Tori is 11 and Levi will be 10 in a week. They have more Lego than I ever dreamed of having as a child. They watch over my shoulder as I surf this site and others. They ooh and awe at what they see. They also help me build and check out all my creations.

Most importantly they build their personal MOCs.

Here is the Mountainside Market which they built after I got them some food items from BL http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=175979

Tori is in the last couple pics as she was the organizer of the MOC, but hewr brother helped build (his idea was the weapons stall :D )

Check out their other creations. Dates on pics to see progression in building techniques. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=104070

Tori and Levi want to know what you think.

Hey, that's great!

The market really catches the feel of an open-air, busy city market. That drinking stand (bar!?) is good as well, the minifig's pose is perfect.

(Kids - see if you can steal some of dad's plates and build a road!)

Oh, and Tori's photocopier is a great use of the trans-color peice - I have to try that.

Keep on building!

I agree with Ethan, the market really does capture that feel. I like the use of those round columns in the booths, too--I actually hadn't thought of it, strangely enough.

As for the other MOCs in the gallery, I really like Sid the Sloth. He's my favorite Ice Age character! :)

Very nice MOCS. My favourite is the golf:http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=973859
The mountainside market really feels like a medieval market. You can see a wolfpack eating a carrot. LOL.

That is very good and your kids are very skilled. It's a lot of fun to have Lego fans for kids, huh? Makes it a lot easier to justify Lego expenses. ;) Do your kids have their own collection, seperate from yours? My Lego Maniac son and I have seperate collections, so I am curious how other AFOL parents run things...

Absolutely seperate!!!! Has always been that way. I have blood vessels popping out if they even reach to touch one of my figs  OK, OK, not quite that bad, but the way they view Lego and I view Lego is a little different.

I do not allow them to play with their Lego when other kids are over (as most have NO repect for the brick "Hey look at this! *snap* *break* )

I agree that most other kids have no respect for the brick, but we teach them. I have lost track of how many kids we have converted to Lego. I have a big (30+ lbs) unsorted general tub that I dump out in the living room for kids to play with when they visit. I always dump it out on a big blanket and it all has to stay on the blanket. I have lost very little, none have been broken, and it always shocks them when I sit down and play too. ;) I have convinced several parents to play too. Now that is fun, they always feel so guilty and keep trying to justify playing! They always keep telling me that Lego is so good for kids, while they (the parents) are running their hands through the pile. :)

Josh

PS. There is a friend of Jonathan's that we watch each Saturday and he had never played with Lego. He loves to build and he is a sorting genius! So now he and Jonathan sort my Lego every Saturday and I pay them both in Lego...

Wow! I'm really impressed! I built much worse then that when I was their age, but of course, I had never heard of www.classic-castle.com to show me some AWESOME brick ideas. Good job you two! I'm 13 and have rekindled my love for legos, and now building like CRAZY! (Be on the look out; I just finished my tailor shop last night)

Great Job!

Hey kids, Thats a great market. I like the way you made the guarded inn into that restruant or house or whatever it is. I like the way everybody is doing something. I like the diversity of the flowers. It was pretty cool how you made a whole bunch of small stalls. (Levi, I like the weapons stall.) Tori must be pretty smart if she organized that whole market.
Have a great one, Thomas
